TimeSplitters

It’s all-systems-go on the CryEngine TimeSplitters mod apparently, with Daniel Wesoly, founder of the TimeSplitters 4 Facebook group announcing that “We have begun work and are just about done wrapping up recruitment!”

“If anyone missed this brilliant opportunity to work on a new TimeSplitters then email me at Killerwesik@gmail.com,” he writes. “Thank you!”

The mod is described as a “TimeSplitters all-in-one. All the levels, all the characters and all the weapons”. There’s been talk of Crytek handing over assets from the original game, so hopefully we’ll soon be able to bring word of that happening. More news as it comes!

TimeSplitters

Fan favourite TimeSplitters has been awaiting a fourth installment for years. After witnessing the collapse of developers Free Radical, and seeing the IP being bought by Crytek UK, fans hoped this would mean the new life would be breathed into the series.

Many years later, though, and fans are still waiting. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has said that he’d love the game to see the light of day again, either as an HD re-release or with a sequel, but he’s not sure how the game would be received in today’s market. “I would love to see the game out there, as a newborn HD version or what not. I definitely would love to see it. But the case of turning this into a business decision is still difficult,” he told GameInformer.

What would make-or-break his business model, however, would be getting 300,000 signatures on this fan-made petition.

“Unfortunately the petition doesn’t look that convincing. If the petition picks up it will be an even better argument for us,” he claimed.

“There’s a very hardcore market that is very verbal about it. I would love to see this, and if the fan base approves a further petition. They’re trying to call 300,000 voices, I think it’s at two or three thousand right now. If they could get the petition together I would be very happy to put in front of decision makers in the company, the key stakeholders, and say ‘Look here. This is how it is, let’s make it now.’”

Since the media has picked up on the petition, that number has jumped from ‘two or three thousand’ to over 30,000. Seems like we can definitely make a difference with this one! If you’ve been waiting for a TimeSplitters sequel or even just want to see it re-released for modern consoles, make sure you add your signature!
