Those of you with Steam pre-orders for The Amazing Spider-Man probably noticed that the game didn’t unlock as expected when August 10 rolled around in the US – despite the fact that its files have been added to the Steam registry. Activision has acknowledged the delay, but given no explanation or timeframe for when the game will actually hit the store, although it did provide the following update via the game’s Facebook page:

“We will not be releasing The Amazing Spider-Man via Steam on August 10, as planned, but we are working towards having this available at a later date. Steam is a great partner that we have worked with on multiple releases and will continue to do so. We will update you on any news as soon as we have anything to share.”

PC gamers have already waited a good six weeks since the open-world action adventure hit consoles, drawing mixed reviews.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Some critics are comparing it to Batman: Arkham City and saying that “open-world fans are finally getting the game they’ve been asking for,” but others just see it as another crappy licensed title. Whether or not you’re excited for The Amazing Spider-Man, though, if you want to play it on the PC, you’re going to have to wait an extra six weeks. Releasing this weekend on the 360, PS3, 3DS/DS and Wii, PC gamers are going to have to wait until the Steam release on the 10th of August. No explanations or reasoning were offered for the delay.
