Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

A game like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 ought to be perfect for someone like me, focusing on the details of being a sniper. Some people’s power fantasy is wanton carnage, other people want to be masters of stealth, or to conquer nations. Me, I love being the silent, invisible angel of death, killing from afar.

What the game actually offers, though, is something like a collection of all the sniper missions from every Call of Duty game.

City Interactive send word that today is the day you, an Australian, can play Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 on your gaming computer or console device. Unfortunately however, it won’t be shipping with DirectX 11 support.

“We will also soon release a dedicated update to the PC version of the game that will allow gamers to enjoy all the advantages of DirectX 11,” claims Marek Tyminski, CEO of CI Games in the launch notes.

A free DLC including two new maps and a new game mode is also planned for shortly after launch. We recently went hands-on with the game and found it didn’t really like it when you refuse to play along with the script.

The game is available on Steam for $29, or you could head over to Green Man Gaming, put in the code GMG20-P4DLK-FKYRS and get it for $24.00 instead. Look for our review early next week.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

When it comes to games, I don’t like being told what to do. If a game tells me to go left, I go right. If a game tells me to shoot a terrorist, I try to sneak past him instead. I want to see what will happen, and I’m not satisfied until I’ve butted heads with the game design team enough times to get a feel for what all my options are.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is not the game for me.

Some people, however, like being told what to do. They like a script, with actors and supporting cast members, and bad guys who strut around, smack-talking you without knowing you’re about to put a bullet through their head and into their friend’s head, across the other side of the city. They want to play along.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is the game for them.

With the 15th of March rapidly approaching, it won’t be too long until Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is sitting in your hands. To convince you to drop a sweet pre-order, City Interactive are releasing new trailer such as this one, which demonstrates the different night vision and thermal lenses available to you in your role as a sniper. We’ll be going hands-on with the game later today, so stay tuned for our thoughts soon.

When a trailer shows up with a name like ‘The Headshot Trailer’ it’s not hard to guess what it’ll contain, and — yes, you guessed it — this Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 trailer contains a larger variety of headshots. The game is very proud of its integration of CryENGINE 3, and we’ll be able to see all that for ourselves when it launches in Australia very soon on March 15. Look for our hands-on coverage soon.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

CI Games have sent word today that Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 has gone gold, and is now ready for its March 15 launch.

Needless to say, CI Games are pretty happy about the prospect, and would like you to know that by “using the advanced capabilities of CryENGINE3, the game delivers graphically stunning environments, more diverse challenges, a rebuilt AI system and the exacting precision and accuracy that made the original a worldwide hit”.

Click here for the last in-game footage trailer from the game and judge for yourself whether or not the CryENGINE3 integration has paid off.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is of course not to be confused with Sniper Elite V2, the other sniper-FPS series which yesterday announced its new Nazi Zombie-themed expansion.

City Interactive have just sent through their latest trailer for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. Entitled ‘Brutal War Crimes’, it shows two minutes of in-engine footage pieced together using CryENGINE 3, and it’s certainly looking quite nice. The game is currently slated for a January 18 release in Australia.

Initially scheduled for release in August this year before being pushed back — and then pushed back, again — Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is now set for a January release, and it seems like they’ve been using the extra time to push the engine quite a bit harder. Running on CryEngine 3, the visuals are quite impressive — but will they make up for the overwhelming linearity and bad AI that so many complained of in the first game? We’ll have to wait and see.
