Following a stream on Friday evening, Uber Entertainment have released a recorded video showing their first-look at in-engine base building. It’s looking good, and even better is the news that they’re aiming for the end of May as the first alpha testing window. It’s a nineteen minute video but it’s worth a watch, and it’s great to see your Kickstarter dollars at work. Take a look:

If there’s one thing I love about modern indie development, it’s exactly how easy it is to get involved with the development process. Case in point: the developers of Planetary Annihilation have recorded their hour-long livestream from last week for you to watch, and it shows you a huge amount of awesome-looking alpha footage direct from their PC, with no marketing bullshots or pre-rendered cutscenes. Love it.

The primary attraction of the video below is of course the engine they’re using to both create and destroy planets. It’s very awesome-looking stuff, and even if you just stick around for a little bit of the video, well worth your time.

If you missed out on the Kickstarter and failed to secure your copy of this up-and-coming game, then never fear: you can now head directly to the Uber Entertainment store and pre-order it for yourself.

The Combat Edition starts at $40 and will net you the game (when it comes out), plus the soundtrack and a pre-order exclusive Theta Commander. If you crank it up to $60, you’ll get beta access as well — and if you’re willing to lay down $90, you can even have alpha access too.

The planet-annihilating Planetary Annihilation Kickstarter has now raked in over two million dollars on its pledge drive, with just over twelve hours remaining on the clock.

The massive amount of money means that the game has now unlocked nearly all of its stretch goals: a full orchestral score is now in the works, along with the ‘Galactic War’ replayable single- and multi-player meta game that allows you to conquer procedurally-generated galaxies alone or together with a friend. Lava and metal-based planets are now locked in, giving access to vast amounts of geothermal energy and ancient battle stations of aeons past.

If the drive reaches $2.1 million in the next twelve hours, the team will fund and produce a documentary about the creation of the game. For more information on the available reward tiers and what you can unlock for donating, take a look at some of the recent posts.

Half a dozen people have been emailing us all day to let us know that the Planetary Annihilation Kickstarter, an interplanetary RTS from the people behind Total Annihilation, has reached its $900,000 goal and will be developed.

At the time of writing the drive has raised $936,000, with 15 days to go. The team are planning to announce new stretch goals on top of the already-announced ones, including naval units and water planets at $1,100,000, and gas giants and improved orbital units at $1,300,000.

Some of you may remember Total Annihilation, 1997′s seminal RTS and still a game looked back upon fondly by millions. Well, many of that games’ creators now work at Uber Entertainment, makers of such games as Monday Night Combat, and they want to make another RTS. Only this time, they don’t want any publishers involved, because they’re asking you to fund it directly.

Planetary Annihilation is ‘Total Annihilation-inspired gameplay on a planetary scale’, and if their trailer is anything to go by, it’ll involve managing bases on multiple planets, orbital drops, asteroid captures, and even the building of gigantic rockets on the back of asteroids to push them directly onto your enemy’s base, killing them instantly. Sounds amazing.
