Cisco/Linksys users this week were shocked when their routers automatically downloaded a new operating system, and then promptly locked them out.
In order to get back into their routers, users were required to agree to registering on Cisco’s “Cloud” service, an agreement which gives Cisco the right to not only monitor their customers’ internet usage, but also to shut down their router remotely whenever they feel like it. Cisco’s “Cloud” service agreement also gives the company the right to continue updating your router’s software – even if you explicitly disable automatic updating. Nasty stuff.
