Half-Life 2

You know what I love? Simulated physics. I love watching objects fall and tip and fling and crash and crumple in dynamic and believable ways. Simply by implementing a believable (not necessarily realistic) system of physics and gravity that affects the objects in the game word, a game is given a literal and figurative weight, and is opened up to all kinds of dynamic and exciting outcomes.

Half-Life 2 is nine-years-old. Nine years! Since then, simulated physics have become so common-place as to hardly be noticed.

It’s a pretty good match-up, swapping out Niko Bellic for Far Cry 3‘s unintentional star Vaas — and as the video below shows, it works rather well. The official mod page, where you can download it from, warns that you’ll need a higher-end card than normal to handle the bump-mapping on Vaas, so if you struggle to run GTA IV normally then you’ll probably want to leave this one alone. Enjoy!

Who hasn’t thought to themselves, “Man! Grand Theft Auto IV would be better if I was Iron Man”? Am I right? Nobody, that’s who. Now, we can live that dream with the Iron Man mod, which turns Niko Bellic into Tony Stark and lets you fly through the city, exploding cars and people with your various repulsor beams and enhanced strength.

Get the mod and installation instructions from here, and take a look at the video below (skip to 2:25 for my favourite bit). Lovely.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Perhaps to celebrate the announcement of the next game in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition is on sale on Steam. Usually setting you back about $30, The Complete Edition, which includes all DLC is now $7.50, a huge 75% off. It is, in fact, the same price the buy the game without any of the DLC. So there you have it — it is, appropriately, a steal.

If you already own the game and just need to pick up the DLC though, they are also on sale. Episodes from Liberty City would usually cost you another $20 on its own, but is now down to just $5.

So if you’ve been putting off buying this one, or are suddenly interested due to the announcement of the next game, now is the time to buy! The sale will contine for the next 44 hours after the time of writing, so just under two days. Get purchasin’!
