The already bruised reputation of Games for Windows Live has taken another battering over the past four days. Microsoft has acknowledged widespread reports from users struggling to connect to the service. Numerous people have taken to the official forums to express their dissatisfaction. “At first I wasn’t bothered [that] Dark Souls was on GFWL,” said one forum member, “but now I’m joining the legions of people petitioning for it to be a Steam-only release instead.” While the issues are yet to be resolved, Microsoft has proposed a stop-gap solution:
“Some users are reporting success by running the following four commands in an administrator command prompt (right click on the command propt and select run as administrator)
- bitsadmin /reset
- ipconfig /flushdns
- netsh int ip reset
- netsh winsock reset
then restarting their computers, starting their game up and selecting ‘Sign-in with another account’ and re-entering their log-in information.”
The platform holder has conceded that its jerry-rigged solution won’t work in all cases and has pledged to pursue a permanent fix.
