Forge

The old chocolate-and-peanut butter adage states that two good things can sometimes combine to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. FORGE, a Kickstarter failure but Steam Greenlight alumnus is banking on this premise.

FORGE is an online multiplayer class-based shooter in the same vein as games like Team Fortress 2, but with a little twist — it uses mechanics and tropes pulled from fantasy MMOs.

Below, we have the launch trailer for FORGE, featuring a metric buttload of gameplay. As a launch trailer would suggest, the game is now available on Steam, as well as through other digital outlets including Amazon, Gamers Gate and the game’s official website.

All these sites, it should be noted, are participating in the buy-one-get-one-free deal, where you can purchase your first copy for the retail price of $20, and receive another copy to give to a friend. For an entirely PvP experience, this seems like a clever move.

Check out the launch trailer below, and tell us what you think. Will you be picking FORGE up?

Steam Greenlight strikes again, this time with Forge, an upcoming MMO set for release next month. Forge was forged in Unreal Engine 3 and focuses primarily on PvP combat.

The class-based MMO promises no grind and that you will be “as powerful when you start playing Forge as you will be years from now”, offering a level playing field no matter your time spent playing. Instead of power increases as you level, in Forge you unlock new abilities and armour as you play.

In terms of story, it’s probably one of the more interesting I’ve heard. “A malicious being named The Devourer has swallowed the great pantheon of gods. Seeking escape, the trapped gods have deceived great warriors, zealous adherents and placed them on a faceless world called FORGE, designed sacrifice the weakest of these warriors in order to grow their own power. Choosing one of five unique warrior classes, the player must battle head-to-head with other players in a bid to free their god from the clutches of The Devourer. Armed with a set of powerful and unique abilities as well as a powerful and deadly ally, each warrior must overcome the varied challenges of Forge where every kill is a sacrifice and every sacrifice brings them one step closer to freedom.”

Forge is coming out on December 4, and if you drop the requisite $20 to pick it up, you’ll also be given an extra copy to give to a friend. Check out their Greenlight page for more details and the alpha gameplay trailer below. (Thanks, VG247)
