A new backer update released to those of you who pledged for Dreamfall Chapters has revealed that the game has now ramped up to full production.

In a newly-released video diary, which you can see below, the crew also reveal that they’ll be showing portions of the game at a conference in June — so presumably things are going fairly well behind the scenes.

Red Thread Games has produced a trailer for Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, which reveals an expected November 2014 release date for the long, long-awaited adventure. The developer has also detailed an ambitious stretch goal: at $2 million, it will produce “The Longest Journey Home”, a continuation of – and conclusion to! – the story of original protagonist April Ryan. It’s the story fans of the series most want to hear, but Ragnar Tørnquist told GameSpot that if he’s going to tell it, he wants to do it old-school – as a slower-paced point-and-click adventure. That makes it a less commercially viable prospect than Red Thread’s current project, but the developer has vowed to get around to it eventually if it can, even if the goal is not met.

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey has smashed its Kickstarter goal by a clear $250,000 and is now coasting towards a cool $1.1 million with only 10 days to go. But wouldn’t it be neat if you could buy it through Steam, as well?

Such is the thinking of Ragnar Tørnquist and his team of developers, who have submitted the game to Steam Greenlight for your consideration.

In the same update, it was also revealed that you can add a copy of The Longest Journey to your Kickstarter pledge rewards by throwing an additional $10 on top. Why not visit the Kickstarter page and see if you’d like to chip in?

Well done, everybody! generous backers have poured over $1 million into Ragnar Tørnquist’s Kickstarter coffers, with the result that Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey will be bigger than originally planned.

“We will add new characters, including Abnaxus of the Venar, and new locations, both in Stark and Arcadia. We add more exploration, more depth, more lore. More to see and more to do. Think of this as the extended edition of Dreamfall Chapters. We don’t alter the story or flow, but we open things up and allow players to delve deeper into the game world,” Red Thread Games said.

This was the big milestone many fans were shooting for, but the campaign still has 15 days to go – half its lifetime – so don’t be surprised if we hit a few more stretch goals, too. Some upcoming targets include the chance to explore the House of All Worlds; an interactive graphic novel retelling the story of the previous two games; an expanded and improved soundtrack with more live instruments and vocals; and extended language support.

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is the long-awaited follow-up to The Longest Journey and Dreamfall.

In just over a week, generous backers have met and exceeded Red Thread Games’ US $850,000 Kickstarter goal for Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey. A new thank you video has been released, but the developer has also posted new stretch goals – Mac and Linux versions, something called The Loremaster, and at $1 million, “A Longer Journey”. More goals will be added as required and the team is teasing something called “The Longest Journey Home” as its final stretch goal.

But enough talk: here’s some “very early prototype footage” with placeholder character models and environmental assets; the final game will look quite different, and will have a better frame rate and user interface, as well as improved animations.
