<p>“An earlier version of <em>DOOM 4</em> did not exhibit the quality and excitement that id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that <em>DOOM</em> fans worldwide expect,” <a href="http://kotaku.com/five-years-and-nothing-to-show-how-doom-4-got-off-trac-468097062" title="Kotaku US">claimed Bethesda&#8217;s Pete Hintes to Kotaku</a>. </p>
<p>“As a result, id refocused its efforts on a new version of <em>DOOM 4</em> that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the <em>DOOM 4</em> id is making, we will let folks know.”</p>
<p>Kotaku is reporting sources that claim in the wake of the <em>RAGE</em> launch, id suddenly realised that <em>DOOM 4</em> had been sitting around for a while and not really doing anything, and was starting to look less than impressive. Zenimax delivered the company an overriding order: Postpone or cancel other projects, and get everyone on <em>DOOM 4</em>. And make it as big as <em>Skyrim</em>.</p>
<p>I guess we&#8217;ll find out whether or not id have been up to the challenge when the company is ready to start talking about it. Until then, let the speculation commence.</p>
