Dead Island devs mod game into dark gothic RPG, company makes it official

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking “Yeah, Dead Island was pretty good, but what it needed were more spells and magic and giant axes,” then you’re going to have your prayers answered. A few Techland devs working in their spare time created a magic mod for the game, allowing you to do fun things like freeze a monster with ice and then chop it up with a bloody great sword.

This apparently turned some heads inside Techland, and a few developers were assigned to turn this into a real thing: so it is that ‘Project Hell’ – a codename, for now – is being eagerly worked on by a small team inside Techland, and is shaping up rather nicely.

They’re chronicling their adventures over at Sharpen Your Axes!, including asking for votes on how things should go – so take a look and chip in with your thoughts.
