Crusader Kings 2 has been the strategy game of choice for many people I know recently, and their incessant tweets/instant messages giving me updates on their army’s progress and how many children their queen has had lately have made the game sound immensely appealing. Well, now things are about to get even better as Paradox announce ‘The Old Gods’ expansion, due out later in the year.

The new expansion is set to include the chance to play either as a Pagan or Zoroastrian, and bring about the return of the Old Gods through sacrifice and divination, as well as a new starting time period of 867 AD, giving you 200 more years. Rebels now have needs and goals, cities can be burned to the ground, and you can now declare your intent to invade a rich target, and “watch adventurers and opportunists flock to your banner”. Nearly every strategy-minded games-writer-type I know has had their soul ruthlessly devoured by Crusader Kings II recently, and now Linux gamers can too! The game has now launched for Linux through Steam, and is of course Steamplay enabled so if you already own it, it’s now suddenly good for Linux as well. A new expansion for Crusader Kings II has been announced: Legacy of Rome. In it the player will control the Byzantine Empire, and will have to quell vassal revolts, control scheming generals, and enjoy new Byzantine-specific events and decisions.

New features also include being able to appoint your own Orthodox patriarch, demand levies from vassals, and self-improve your regent with new Self-Improvement ambitions.

The Legacy of Rome expansion is due in Quarter 4 of 2012 through Steam and all other major digital download portals, and should be about $10 USD.
