I would personally hope that you don't run demo, as the best racing seems to happen with the GTR cars. But I'll try to show up whatever runs. I wasn't around for last years, what format was run then?
Quite simply it was run as demo because it allowed people new to LFS to jump in and play it for the first time and have some fun, which really works well lats year. Think of the "celebrity" races at the F1 events in Melbourne etc, they aren't using "race" cars and the driver experience levels are quite varied, but the racing is fun and entertaining. That's how I viewed last years LFS events.
In an ideal world it would be great to run S2 cars, but that will likely halve our numbers quickly, and we don't want to run with just 5 or 6 guys.
Last years format took about an hour to complete and was as follows
THE MINI SERIES: The Mini Series will see drivers assigned to two teams [RED] and [BLUE] and will be run over 4 various races, with each race being of 5 laps in distance. At the end of a race, points will be allocated for positions, with the points system being as follows;
The race events for the "Mini Series" will have no qualifying, with random grid assignments (by game) to keep the playing field slightly more even for all experience levels.
The races will be;
Race 1 - XFG (XF GTI) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 laps
Race 2 - XFG (XF GTI) at Blackwood Rallycross (BL2) - 5 laps
Race 3 - XRG (XR GT) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 laps
Race 4 - FBM (Formula BMW) at Blackwood GP (BL1) - 5 Laps
At the end of all 4 races, points will be tallied to declare the Team, and Driver, Mini Series champions.
The vids below were done by Lucassot of all the races.
At this point nothing is organised of what this years events will be, nothing is set in concrete, but as it is a community event I really would hate to exclude people just because they don't own the full version of rather old racing sim, or will only end up with a handful of guys taking part.
v4moose, I have LFS added on my Steam games, so if you see I have it fired up I am most likely jumpng on the servers for some laps
just a note that sometimes the server doesn't come up when using the server browser. It's far easier to join a specific host and then copy and paste the name and password into the fields.
If you have LFS installed correctly lfs://join=GONLympics should connect you straight to the server. I will add it to the first post. Was hoping to get on tonight but have a few things to do and this heat has killed me for the day
EDIT - renamed server to just GONLympics to make it easier
If anyone wants to see whats going on at the servers, so they can see if others are on practicing or whatever, I have now linked the server up to LFS Remote, which gives a 2D view of the server racing and shows people connected etc.
For a start if you bothered to read the actual info, it is a demo content based series and a race or two will be added for guys with S2. Also someone suggested Trackmania last year, which got no response at all. Why you would to say they there is a problem with participation is beyond me, last years was just fine, and this years is looking to be its equal.
