Personally I don't really care about this particular fabricated crisis. I wish they'd stick to things that actually matter but appealing to the average racist wins votes unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure drones are unnecessary. I'd be surprised if we didn't already have the capability with radar/sea buoys to detect boats around our borders. A boat getting through seems more like a cry for additional funding than anything else.

On the plus side, I can't envisage Barnaby Joyce beating Tony Windsor. So if Abbott gets in, we won't have crazy cousin Joyce running part of the show.

He'd still be a Senator, wouldn't he? Doubt he'd risk it otherwise.

Nope - you cant be a senator and run for a lower house seat from what I've heard.

Can't say you see a quote like this too often

A LIBERAL candidate says she "accidentally" endorsed the view that Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi should have something rectally inserted.

Well, Abbott did pretty well compared to last time. Still the same BS lying rhetoric but he at least didn't look like a yammering moron when he delivered it :P

So.... Abbott is being sued in court today by ex-One Nation founder, David Ettridge, over his part in funding the legal action against him and Pauline Hanson that landed them in jail, later thrown out on appeal. Pretty big story you would have thought? But apparently our media is only interested when someone from the Labor side (or Liberal turncoats like Slipper) are involved

Keep in mind that it's only a hearing, may well be thrown out summarily.

Seems to be getting some coverage in the infotainment realms:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/breaki ... 6637517349

edit: Are they all carbon copys of the same bloody story? Apparently so... I can understand the Telly, News and Herald Sun duplicating content (given that they are all News Ltd), but NineMSN as well?

edit2: Ahhh, it's an AAP story, which is jointly owned by Fairfax and News Ltd. Goes to show just how limited our MSM actually is.

And we are now having a referendum at the same time deciding whether local governments are recognised in the constitution. If I'm not mistaken this was similarly proposed in 1974 and 1988, both of which failed.
