Not really, alot of the whinging over cert prices, extra weapons and the like is just the BF3/COD mentality kicking in, where people expect a ribbon, a shiny and a new better gun every 10minutes or so.
Believe me you can still kick all kinds of **** with default weapons, infact the default weapons are typically one of the strongest for that class and faction (semi-auto snipers not so much). The other weapons really are just sidegrades, you're not missing out on much playing stock. And each class has it's main functionality straight out of the bag, infils can hack and cloak, medics can heal and engis can fix.
The game has been out barely a week (less considering server downtime) and everyone expects to have a fully upgraded tank, esf AND a billion guns in each class, without dropping any cash on the game. You've all been spoiled by bad games with terrible progression mechanics I'm afraid, welcome to how it's supposed to be done, specialise and you'll master your craft quickly, try do everything and you'll be stuck with lots of basic equipment.

The only thing time will really give you is map knowledge and a better idea of how to find a fight.
