The king is back - Battlefield 1942 is 10, now free!

Happy bday BF1942, you are pretty damn amazing and we would like to give you lots of hugs. 1942 really is one of the original games that kicked off this amazing games network, we are both 10 and have a bond like no other (ok, I lied...we love CS just as much).

FREE DOWNLOAD EXPIRES MARCH 1, 2013.

We will be rolling out 20 servers shortly to accomodate those who want to return to the battlefield :)

That's pretty sweet! I hope a bunch of people get onto the servers and make use of them. Such a good game.

Edit: Also from reading the T&C's, does it mean that after the 1st of March next year you can no longer play it from their free download? Or you just can't download it anymore?

OH EXCELLENT. Was just coming to ask if you lot could set some up.

Are you able to put one up with the same name as we had before? I can get it for you but it's something like "3FL BF1942 #1" and it'll be recognised by a lot of the older players from the Aus/NZ regions.

They will probably slap a price on it after March rolls around, that's how I'm reading it :).

Well I'm sure in half a year the game population will have died down again so it's not going to be an issue for most people.

FYI the size is 1.2GB, doesnt take long at all :)
Although I edited the video.con files in my "Stool" profile, the resolution i set doesnt stick..?
Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Stools
^ this the right ones to edit?

game.setGameDisplayMode 1920 1080 32 60
game.setDetailTexture 4
game.setShadows 1
game.setEnvironmentMapping 1
game.setGraphicsQuality 3
game.setLightmaps 1
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 3
game.setPerformance 3
renderer.fieldOfView 1.33333
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
renderer.globalLodRadius 5
renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 0
renderer.mipmapbias -5
renderer.setVSyncEnabled 0/0 0/0

The FOV @ 1.0 = 4:3, 1.25 = 16:10 and 1.33333 = 16:9

But still the resolution isnt working, and Hotdamn this mouse sensitivity is off the charts!

I would say most people who will try it already own if from years ago and the FAQ says its not compatible with the old version...

So lets hope it stays free so people can enjoy what was one of the best games of its day... knowing EA though they will slap 50 bucks on it in au :P

To get it to fit your screen change the aspect ratio settings in your GFX Control Panel.

I can't enable PB in the server browser. I keep getting an error saying I need to install the latest patch.

EDIT: Also use this guide to get your widescreen res to stick.

There's 2 patches I presume you'll need. 1.61 and 1.61b.

Install in that order and when it asks if you want to install Punkbuster during installation, say yes.
