In all seriousness though, who do we agree is suitable for the job? (or does GON not allow us to name people, similar to how they handle bans and complaints?)

Many of the regulars have been troublemakers in the past, one way or another. Swearing, kicking players who they simply don't like, trying to cheat, excessive exploiting, purposely disrupting/ruining games, etc.

Aids
Baskerville
lilwilly
Radioman
Sky Monster
UnderTow
Wraith

These are players I've seen regularly in the past few months, that are often voted as admin (or vote themselves). There are plenty of other regulars but most of them don't like to take charge/responsibility of choosing parameters or kicking players, etc.

Of the above list, there's only two players I have not wished to see banned (temporarily) for their behaviour in the past  (Sky/Radio)

What we need is just a "moderator" anyway, not an admin. So I suggest NOT giving any of the above players the admin password. The best part of GON is that we run it like a democracy. It's not perfect, but better than other servers I've played on over the years.

This is what I would do:
  • Change voting threshold from 0.33 to 0.3 or 0.25 (25% of votes) for admin.
  • Give B.E.C access to several players who play regularly but never take admin. Only give them kick and temp ban commands (up to 24 hour bans)

That's it! The player majority will still vote for the admins THEY want to set up games. Only if they abuse their position, don't know what they're doing, refuse to log out, or go AFK, will the moderator's step in and kick them, allowing a re-vote.

Otherwise you get one player with too much power that just takes over the server every time they play, and it ends up becoming their server.

You can name as many people as you feel like naming, but it will have little input into actually who gets selected. An Admin is generally selected after they have proven themselves capable of being able to do the role. ie Able to pick a hacker, Regular submissions (in the form of Trouble Maker Reports), Ability to be helpful both in game and on the forums, and of course being over the age of 18 (both for maturity and because legal documents need to be filled in/signed etc).

I didn't say you were guilty of every on of those actions. If I have to be specific, Aids would be guilty of excessive swearing (almost every game) while you I would attribute as being disruptive and ruining games (depending on your mood) as well as often going AFK for hours at a time, without telling players, even AFTER you have been voted admin or Commander. I can recall at least 3 times you've done this in the past fortnight.

I'm also pretty sure if someone logs in with the admin password, and goes AFK, another admin cannot log-in to take over or kick them. Another reason having moderators with kick command is a better solution.

A recent example, the other night you had tax at 100% for over an hour. Players were struggling to buy gear or transport to leave the base, while you went through at least an AH64, AV8 and an A10. You weren't distributing the money fairly, doing any upgrades, or bothering to make a 2nd base (or even defend the first one). It was just an abuse of power, plain and simple.

NDA aka Non Disclosure Agreement (That in this case require the signatory to be over 18. That may be a GON requirement not all NDA's, sorry I am not 100% sure).

What in the world is required of GoN admins that they need to agree to an NDA?
Do you rip out the secret vault of Internode which the new admin has to touch, while doing the secret hand shake leg stand and reciting the super secret node pony theme?

Not sure I can answer that >_> ...................... (joking)

At the end of the day, what is discussed behind closed doors (could be bans / logs, could be the future direction of Games On Net, could be anything really) needs to stay behind closed doors.

I am sure you can figure it out SaNE :P

Contracts as a whole need the signatory to be over 18 - if the signatory is under 18 it simply doesn't apply. There are exceptions, but you can't be too far off if you roll with this assumption.

Im kind of inclined to agree with what was said earlier about just giving some people the ability to temp ban troublemakers, when the regulars are in the admin slot they take it seriously. Having another admin isnt the only way to deal with the troublemakers.

Played warfare for the first time in a year. There was a new "regular" going around running people over, whining, insulting people trying to rile people up and start ****. It used to be a lot better, lots of retards and idiots coming in from the DayZ influx, I'll be going back to locked private servers.
