What I love doing on the AH...

Unread postby Mugsy » 29 Jul 12, 5:14 pm

Maybe I'm just bitter when someone decides to outbid me on an auction but, when there's still a bit of time to go, I have a tendency to try to find out how much their max bid is. Most people put in pretty even numbers, 20k, 25k, 30k, etc. So I just start bidding in increments of 5k until the max bid equals what I just put in.

Then I'll decide whether it's worth continuing and outbidding the other person.

Sometimes, I just put a 1k bid on an item that only gives a small bonus compared what I'm already using... if I get it, great; if not, I'll give up. Other times, the bonus is quite large so I might consider spending 50k on acquiring it.

Either way, I walk away happily knowing that the person who outbid me now has to pay top dollar to get the item.

So if I were you, I'd start bidding with 1 gold less than the round number you were originally thinking of entering. ;)

I always laugh when I bid on an item and end up putting the price up by millions, and the guy that was winning before I bid is still winning. all of a sudden he's paying so much more for the same item.

Well, I think this is what I don't like doing on the AH... making mistakes on the item I'm getting.

I've been unhappy with the aesthetics of my WD since I gave up my Split Tusk for a punny looking mask with better stats. Thus, I put down a bid on a new Legendary Voodoo Mask so I could look intimidating again. I was around at the last minute to ensure that I'd get the item. Sure enough, someone outbid me with 1min to go; sure enough, I came in at a higher amount and got the item. Let that be a lesson to anyone aiming to outbid at the last minute, throw a 100k more than required if you really want the item.

Then, as I went to put in a Ruby to give me +19% xp,... there was no socket! I could have sworn that it had a socket when I placed the initial bid!!!!!! Guess I was probably seeing what I wanted to see.

Ended up finding another of the same mask but with the socket and better stats with a buyout price only 10k more than the first one I got. Oh well, seems I can sell the spare for a profit still due to the stats being better than what's currently on the market but it was a lesson well learnt.

Now, back to looking intimidating. Only 1.5 lvls to go before a DPS boost.
