Last Flight Discussion (Any Game)

Unread postby DarkMellie » 19 Jul 12, 10:14 pm

Good night in the A-10's on the Training Mission hosted on the AEF server. Went to join PwR but you only have two aircraft available!

Got some GBU-38 Tank kills... forgot that this bomb doesn't have the second line on the HUD with the countdown pickle-timer.. just had to hit it between the unwinding reticule and then lase.

Was horribly lost there for a while because I had my waypoint set to the airport but the TGP slaved to some tanks... took me a while to realise.

Dude called Grizzly was critiquing my terrible landing skills, was really quite unnecessary! Managed to put her down on the second pass.

Really want to learn how to navigate properly (outside of just waypoints) as well as use radio-stacks... am going to do some youtube tutorial homework and then start up some Tanker missions.

What was your last flight like?

yes sorry about that the extra slots I made were for p-51d's; I saw pepen join and realised that there were no slots for more a-10c pilots and then re-jigged the mission but obviously to late for you guys. The mission now defintely has room for 4 x a-10c and 2 x p-51d pilots and 8 CA commanders. We should try again on the weekend.

cheers :)

Last night we did the senaki airport skirmish again I was being a tank commander, m1's, and DJ was learning the a-10. he managed to get a few mav kills and managed to get back to the airbase for a rearm, I lost quite a few tanks in capturing a couple of control points to the west of the airport but was never able to keep control long enough to score a win but did manage to destroy a few of the oppositions t-80's. The dust and smoke are a tad annoying in CA as you can't see much after you fire the main gun, but it has been said that will be fixed in the next beta.
We should be on tomorrow morning and I think I'll add a role for the p-51d and take that for a flight.

cheers :)

All went better today. Managed about 20 odd kills. Had a bug now twice where my landing brakes do not engage and I overshoot the runway screaming across the grass like a drunk P plater with a rusty Ute. Had a lot of fun and I'm just about to sit down and learn how to re-arm. Let that be a lesson to u kids. Always keep your body parts inside of the cockpit.

We will be playing again around 4.30 to 7pm today. Come and dirty up Brims server.

we had a good win today our first in DCS W, DJ in the a-10c racked up a nice bevy of kills with the mav and got himself to 2nd lieutenant, I pushed forward as a tank commander controlling 3 of the six points then entered the battle in a Ka-50 and made quick work of advancing t-80's trying to recapture those points. The battle ebbed and flowed for about 80 minutes before we managed to hold the control points to get our 100 points to get the win.
Dj decided to land on our liberated airport only to be shot in the knee while rearming by a rouge t-80, lol

We had another great mp session on sunday arvo, running the same training mission DJ and myself managed a good bevy of kills and our newest recruit, Mitchell, got his first kills in the KA-50. We had 2 Ka-50's the brimsters and the smokers mauling the advancing t-80's while the A-10c squadron, the Deejays, were taking care of the sams, tungs and shilkas. Mission went pretty well, though I didn't spend enough time managing the ground assests and as such we didn't get the win.
The funniest moment was when DJ came in to land for a rearm, I was watching after losing a KA-50, and he had the runway lined up beautifully and a nice 160 knots lowers the landing gear and oh no only one landing wheel; the left wheel must have been shot off in the previous sortie though there wasn't that much damage to the plane, once he did land the a-10c was definitely unflyable.

Image

we did have endless issues with rearming, the ground crew seemed to be unresponsive to radio chat on returning from a sortie; we could get them to rearm before takeoff but on return they just didn't want to know about us and looking through the ED forums seems to be a radio bug in 1.2

cheers :)

Another good training session last night with 2 wins on the Senaki airfield. DJ again flying the a-10c racked up a nice bevy of sorties and showed off his acrobabtic flying skills, Mitchel took the KA-50 up and tallied a few t-72's and discovered the trim mechanic and I managed a few hits with the m1 though I did fly a few ka-50 sorties to give Mitchell a hand clearing the control points.
Penpen arrived late in the second battle and managed a few flyby's in the a-10c; good to see you on the server last night Penpen, always welcome as is anybody else.
The current training mission allows you to fly in game mode so if your new to DCS and would like to try mp jump in and have a go.

It was getting late and some 4 hours of flying and DJ starts popping mono's on landing
Image

Mitchel taking a little to much heat
Image

Penpen joins the battle and DJ turns for another bombing run
Image

DJ hits the air brakes just a little late after touch down
Image

and red in their box and blue holding the runway, good win

cheers :)

Had a quick fly this morning, had to take out a SAM network. The other pilot on the server knew what he was doing so we tallied up a fair amount of kills between us.

And after I got a little too ambitious with the bomb dropping...

Bomb view delivers some good shots, I'll have to take a few next mission.
Mellie are you having any issues rearming or refueling on the aef server ? last week it was working fine but the last few nights we could only rearm while in the hanger or infront of an open hanger just before takeoff but returning and parking out front of an open hanger we don't get a copy and we tried all over the airport and still no copy. KA-50 I can refuel but rearming just won't copy either.

cheers :)

Haven't tried either of those activities in ages. I've never been Winchester so never had to rearm but refueling was never a problem.

Had a weird issue with landing this morning. My ILS was set to the correct channel and I'd selected ILS as the nav mode (behind the joystick) but nothing happened. Also had the tower frequency set but they weren't responding to my radio chatter. Should Tower be VHF (it was I think)?

Might look up the resource thread when I get home :D

Woah, apparentl DCS World completely changed how you reqrm/refueld. Press left control + the apostrophe key to bring up your window for this... Very simple and powerful tool.

Was flying the Hardcore Terrorist mission tonight, took out a bomb truck and a Strela that were inbound to the airfield but was heavily damaged by another AA unit, managed to out down my crippled craft in the gentlest landing I've managed to date.

I was also shown the ropes with the SU-25T, quite easy considering it hasn't got a clickable cockpit, was quite nice to be doing a fair rate of speed after all my time spent carefully lining thehog up. AEF had 5 or so guys in their community teamsoeak channel, definitely recommend it as a place to hang (the GoN channel isn't seeing much activity).

Anywhoe, I'm on most nights from 11pm, would be great to do some missions across the shark/hog/frog.

Flew the SU-25T most of the night, a surprisingly easy ride when you don't have to worry about full controls like the hog and shark.

While engines are off use left Alt + ' - as stated above this works in all aircraft and lets you change fuel, chaff/flares and weapons... much more reliable than calling the tower. In the SU-25T your canopy must be open for this to be heard and your engines off (A-10 can do it with engines on and canopy closed).

Right Shift + L (electrics)
Right Alt + Home (start left engine)
Right Ctrl + Home (start right engine)
Ctrl + C (close canopy)
Shift + F (fully extend flaps)
Ctrl + F (full retract flaps)

Take-off speed seems to be about 290kmh (display is metric so altitude is in meters).

Once in the air...

7 - Air to Ground mode
i - Elint

then it's just a matter of waiting for a diamond shape to appear (there's a little more around this, keep an eye on your threat receiver, lower right of front panel) then hold the square elint box over the diamond and press Enter to lock, then once 'LA' appears under that reticule, fire your missile and bug out.

Rolands are a pain though, couldn't take one out tonight without getting downed by its own missiles so I took up an A10 and smashed the **** anyway.

Fun night, if you couldn't tell :P

thanks Mellie; I do like to chat with the ground crew and seems that opening the canopy is needed now to make the rearm work properly for the a-10. I mainly use the keyboard shortcuts when ordering my wingmen, but it is useful having the key command list printed and in easy reach.
I haven't flown the su-25t yet; I should as I liked the planes in FC2, great fun for a some casual flying and FC3 will be a great addition to DCS World.

cheers :)

I was definitely canopy-closed when I did it last week (current version).

interesting, was that via keyboard shortcut or could you do that through the radio menu ? and I guess that was sim avionics.

cheers :)
