I'm not a "regular" regular, but I do still play. Good luck with getting "the whole GON Arma community" to move base. Warts or not, 'nodes gonna be my home forever, even if they never patched another Arma2 server from here on to Arma3 and beyond. (But I think I hear you, you just want some more attention to the node servers)
The server costs me nothing (in addition to internet subscription costs) to play on and it's simply good enough for my casual experience.
Warfare game play is not my ideal style but I'll take a GON server over others pretty much everytime. I used to keep up with ACE2 updates and go to other servers - but probably won't again until Arma3 and assumeably ACE3... if ACE ever struck big on GON, that's where I'd be.
I enjoyed most the social/gaming mix style of Arma1 EVO and DOM missions mainly cause we played COOP. We'd rape towns, pound pavement, ambush vehicles, side missions, take on a town from a rooftop with everything from laser desig's to m16s and work land sea air logistically as a team. The amount of communication, and a determined and pre-meditated pace that tends to occur when working as a team.
As opposed to the often erratic and frequently uncoordinated efforts a die/respawn @ ambo/die again fest and rush to get a chopper/tank and screw the rest attitude seems to get in warfare. It is still fun, just slightly less than my nostalgia remembers.
Unfortunately, coop never seems to take off in big numbers here (at least when I do show up). Last time for me really was ~Arma1 time - but man were those nights and weekends fun.
