Nice in theory Fryzie, but take a look at where Christmas and Cocos Islands are in relation to Australia and Indonesia. Whilst I'm not aware of any territorial disputes for these islands, it shows that ownership of territory is not based solely on distance, but on historical exploration, settlement and colonialism. If you do a bit of research, you'll see claims to these islands go back hundreds of years and is nothing new.
