Well for good all in one changes there is ACE, which is a fantastic gameplay overhaul which is also compatible with quite a few others.

But other then that you might need to mix and match a few more with it to make it perfect.

Does vanilla Skyrim have a stupid level/enemy system like vanilla Oblivion? I recall POOP had a mod included that really improved Oblivions system, so you could actually run into monsters and such that made proper RPG sense, instead of everything being more or less around your level...

Skyrim is much improved in that regard. I started a new game the other day and found a few dungeons that I had to retreat from and come back to later. Even when you get to higher levels, the scaling works in such a way that you will still get the lower level fodder type creatures, interspersed with levelled enemies which are designed as more of a challenge.

You can also change the difficulty on the fly, very directly (damage dealt/received multipliers) if you're after more/less of a challenge.

I'm currently using: auto unequip arrows, filthy rich merchants and unread books glow mods. Second play through so i'm cheating a bit :) Just unlocked Daedric Armour... my god look like satan incarnate.. pics soon :D

So thanks to the Steam price drop/sale, I now own Skyrim!

Sadly there doesn't seem to be any all-encompassing compliation mod packs for it yet, so it's that lovely fiddly game of piecemeal mods.

I have no intention on playing Vanilla at all. Could anyone give thoughts to my randomly thrown together list so far?

Skyre (completely overhauls perks, classes and so on) and all of their suggested mods
Dragons Diversified
More Dynnamic Injuries
SkyTEST Realistic animals and predators

And for asthetics

Project Reality Climates of Tamriel
Quality World Map
Skyrim HD 2k textures
Improved Combat sounds

I think I'll be sticking with what works out of these. As much as I love fresh content and mods, I really hate having to sift through and install a million mods to perfect every facet of a game. Hence why I want to try to keep it simple and use broad-affecting mods, and hopefully one day there will be an awesome mod pack.

Or hell, I could just follow something like this http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2012/05/ ... t-skyrim/1

I'd recommend these ones as well

Sounds of Skyrim (all of them, there's 3 or 4 separate ones)
Project Reality: Climates of Tamriel (lots more variety in weather, darker nights)
House Map Markers
SkyUI
Shenk Thievery Overhaul

Reading furhter on that website list I linked, they're all in the Steam workshop mod thingy. Which means they'll be dead easy to install and use (apparently) so I'll just go with that!

Really hoping there will eventually be some proper compliations. As much as I love mods and such, I can't understand people who can install so many little mods, tweak them so they all play nice, then proceed to play the game. Instead of burning out and not wanting to play after so much fecking aorund.

If you want a challenge, ENB will easily replace every graphics mod on the Skyrim Nexus.

But you really want to look at SMIM first, they will blow you away. I actually like vanilla Skyrim and without the in-game processing (disabled via ENB) the original art really comes out to its own.

I would make sure you get the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

If for no other reason but for the following fix :

NPCs will no longer drop weapons or shields as separate objects, as these are never cleaned up which greatly adds to save bloating and litters the gameworld (the items will still appear to be dropped, but will access the corpse's inventory to be taken and be cleaned up with the corpse if left)

I noticed in the last character I played that any save games were half the size they were at around the same places as my previous play-through's. eg last save was 11mb where on the previous version it was 19mb (each). Less bloat makes the game run a lot better as well.

http://www.iguanadons.net/Unofficial%20 ... story.html

Check out all the fixes they have compiled, which makes a big difference from the Vanilla version when things wouldn't work.

And also while the Steam Workshop makes it easy to download and use mods, I still highly suggest using the Nexus Mod Manager as it is easy to track what mods you have and it also checks whether those mods have been updated and advises you.

Plus I will always support the Nexus as they have always supported the mod community in all these games.

I ended up completely unsure wether the mods I'd selected were even working, so I've nuked Skyrim, am re-installing and I'm going with using Nexus and hand picking a bunch from Skyrim Nexus.

Yep Nexus with Mod Manager is much better way of doing it imo, more control over it.

Are load orderings still really important? Are there any general guides for which order gameplay/asthetic/map mods should be installed?

It can be if you have quite a few different mods.

Boss looks like it is still updated regularly and that is what I have used in the past.

Load order does matter yeah, depends entirely on the mods you're using though. I've only had to juggle one or two mods around manually though , BOSS should take care of most of it (i haven't needed it so far).

Anyway, for anyone interested here is a list of all the mods I've been using:

Love playing Skyrim again, started a new guy a week or so before Dawnguard came out. Level 20 so far, joined the Imperials this time around, got him doing all the Thief/Dark Brotherhood/Vampire stuff. So much fun after playing a sword & shield guy.
