Edit 3.1 of 3.1 so at least there are no issues with the file. Unfortunately that means you have an issue on your end :(

http://au.ign.com/videos/2012/09/14/hal ... commentary

The IGN guys play through the first half hour or so... brought back a just a few memories... (actually a lot.) and the commentary isn't actually annoying, which i found refreshing.

I'm a bit confused. Didn't Valve release a Half-Life: Source a few years ago? What makes this different?

All Valve did was rebuild the old game (old graphics) with the new source engine. Also things that you could do in HL2 like pick up stuff, rubbish etc which you couldn't do in the original. These guys wanted to do a proper reskin/redesign with the updated engine and mechanics.

I've been slowly plodding through and am only up to the cooling tanks at Lamda core but it's just beautifully designed. I've looked all over the place and I'm also playing it on hard and the soldiers seem to be able to "shoot the fly off the back of a rhino at 1000 yards" which has slowed me down a lot. ;)

Im playing it on normal and have almost completely raged out, and i have only got to the surface (with the chopper battle). Makes me realise im just not cut out for old-school games, even with all the aim assist haha. Those soldiers just destroy me, anything else i can handle but constantly moving and shooting machine guns that take a truck full of damage to kill is making want to just restart the section on easy and continue to enjoy the story.

I do think the AI's a lot more vigilant in this remake than it ever was in the original, it seems if you can see them they immediately see you as well and you become the priority target to boot.

But it's only a minor, minor issue stacked up against everything else they've achieved here. It's all just too amazing.

hmm, thats not my experience. A few times i have walked behind them when they had their backs to me, however once i got close enough they suddenly turned around "It's freeman!!!". I think thats pretty realistic, but i cant remember exactly how HL1 was in comparison.

That being said, Black Mesa 'feels' exactly the same to me as HL1, but with better graphics. The BM team have done an astounding job. I'm eagerly looking forwards to the rest.

Then I swear you must be playing it on easy as on hard mode you stick your head around a corner from a big distance and even if they have their backs turned to you they instantly scream "It's Freeman!!" and you're hit with 3 or more shots. ;)

The only time I've noticed them not responding as quickly is when I go back to an early save and then fraps the next encounter they suddenly become camera shy and don't respond as quickly... Image

Which reminds me how much I love how the physics works in this game (a Valve thing more then anything). Who's come across the big mine field area, the one just before the "trip-mine" factory? ;)

First time I did it, picked up a paint tin and threw it into the mine field and it was spectacular as it set off one explosion after another and the force pushed the paint can off towards another mine and then it went around and around several times and cleared the whole minefield! It was amazing but then each time I'd go back to the save just before it and try to capture that again on fraps it would never do it again. No two things are the same, which I suppose, in a game like this is a good thing really.

I am playing it on normal. That may be the difference between the AI then, they can hear/see you from across the map on hard. I am quite enjoying it on normal though. Not too hard to make it frustrating/exhausting, but hard enough to make it challenging/entertaining.

COD was especially bad for this. Pop your head up in a middle of a full scale war, and every German suddenly shoots you instead of random people.

I'm playing on normal and the marines do seem overly difficult. They dish out a LOT of damage and seem to have pin point accuracy even from across the map.
