Just watched Prometheus. I don't quite understand how this movie got such average reviews, I'll probably be thinking about the film for the rest of the evening now.

I watched it last night, and I'm surprised it got average reviews at all.. pretty to look at, but didn't make a lot of sense. I had high hopes, but was disappointed by it.

To some extent? It's a fact that we evolved. The scientific theory of evolution by natural selection is how that process happens - Which, while still a theory, is a scientific one, which means it has a crapload of data to back it up.

My sentence taken out of context, or lacking the needed context differs in meaning. Still, a theory is a theory no matter the proof behind it. We may have evolved from 'something', but where did this checkpoint of our evolution start, and why has it stopped?
I don't know, there's 'proof' from every side, everyone (well, not everyone, just the sane people) has decent points to how they believe it is, I don't want to argue anything. I'm fine with simply living my life the way it's meant to be lived, not arguing how we got here, who or what put us here, what did or didn't happen. It's a topic that will never be resolved. I don't really think this is an appropriate place to have a 'where did we come from' debate.

Baby Jebus is so pissed with this thread right now..

But yes, religion(or lack of) and politics are two subjects that never play out well on a forum and are best left well away... It will all just end in talk of Nazis

But there is a significant difference between a layman theory ("stuff happens, yo") and a scientific theory ("Stuff happens because.. and here is our evidence") Where did evolution start? I assume with the first organic life. As for why has it stopped, what makes you think it has? We are still evolving, mutating, adapting.

I disagree, there is only proof from the scientific side about the origin of our species. Appropriate to discuss here? Its happened before, with mixed results.

We're not evolving, the way we do things might be, and we're definitely mutating (which is how evolution 'started', from mutations), you know the cancer, and other diseases we're failing to kill off with our 'evolving' bodies. :( We (humans) may be evolving, but we're doing a terrible job, we haven't changed in thousands of years. The stuff we do, what we learn is increasing, but our structure as a whole isn't changing, for the better anyway.

Bek wrote:I disagree, there is only proof from the scientific side about the origin of our species. Appropriate to discuss here? Its happened before, with mixed results.

Some, most people would argue that fact, there is 'proof' of a 'higher power', the stories, be them true or not had to have come from somewhere. There is an origin to everything. If there is, or isn't a God, there is no way to prove or disprove it.

I got distracted whilst typing my reply and lost track of my thought. :P Anywho. IDC

Well no, we can't (yet) prove that there isn't a god like being, but we can prove biblical myths are just that. Additionally it's only logical for the burden of proof to lie on the believer, otherwise I could claim any wild thing without having to provide a reason for believing so.

And yes, we are still evolving and we have definitely evolved over the past thousand years. But since you don't care I won't go to the effort of finding the evidence in an easy to post format. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution#Mutation might be a start though, especially the footnote links.

Truly, the value of having an "S" on Skittles and an "M" on M&Ms has never been greater than right now.
