Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

Homefront's story is becoming better and more believable as more becomes clear. From advertising and the game itself it looked as if America had already been defeated and this was just a bunch a bunch of resistance fighters trying to take the country back long after the war ended. But now it's clear that Korea only has some of western America and nothing else, the rest is still in American control and the war is still happening right now, you just happened to be behind enemy lines.

I'm curious to what the rest of the world is doing now, surely the UN would've declared war on Korea after they attacked America.

Though even if the story has become clearer and more believable the premise is still a bit out there imo. :p

Homefront fell so short in the online stakes against the excellent FFOW. It still had that tight aiming action but the maps just didn't suit the gameplay on offer, it needed far greater engagement distances... but sadly just about every game wants to be CoD. I like ye olden days of Battlefield where I could see one flag from another.

Finally beat Four Kings in NG+. So many people are hopeless in co-op, everyone thinks they can just run in and tank everything, but all they end up doing is soaking up my estus flasks or getting themselves one-shotted. Found a reasonable dude, asked him to stay close and focus on my King and what had been a punishing fight suddenly became easy... we even had to wait a good 20 seconds for each new King to appear.

Currently farming the run through New Londo, getting chunks off Dark Wraiths and souls from Ghosts and Drakes. Really hoping for a Titanite Slab drop (currently have 5 dark hands, FIVE) so I can complete another of my weapon achievements (turning my +14 Zwei into a +15).

After that I think I might rush through the bosses just to get to the Kiln then farm that for coloured chunks for a few days. The aim is to complete my second runthrough on the 23rd so I can start afresh on the PC version the next day. I feel I don't have a hope to fulfil the 'Knight's Honour' achievement but gee I'd love to.. having Dark Souls as my first legitimate 1000 would be awesome.

FFOW was fun, but was hurt by some ridiculous design decisions. A battlefield game without dedicated server software at launch was one, iirc. Noob tubes as accurate sniper rifles was another. The guns were quite powerful and balanced in beta, then they buffed the launcher by a factor of about 1000 a week before launch.

It was like they had this great beta game and someone decided to sabotage it. Then everyone disappointed by the launch seemed to ignore servers and the game when it was all fixed.

That was certainly true at release. Eventually it was patched to perfect stability and thanks to a hardcore crowd keeping servers open, I had many months of enjoyment out of it. If it had have had persistent ranking it might have drawn away even more of my time from BF2.

I remember a while back some super sale for FFOW happened and GON setup a server for everyone to play it on.

I finished Homefront a few days ago. Overall I enjoyed it, shooting felt responsive and enjoyable. I also liked how you kinda needed to keep changing your weapon as when you ran out of ammo there usually wasn't more around for that particular gun at that particular time, kinda forced you to just use whatever was available.

The campaign itself however felt extremely short and outright unfinished, kinda like they ran out of time and just had to conclude with whatever had already been made. There was no climax and there were some things like the Korean who captured you at the beginning (who later made an appearance while you were 'hiding') who seemed to be playing the antagonist yet never appeared again after that.

Also while the story ended up being pretty decent and not *as* unrealistic as I originally thought the Koreans I couldn't really take seriously as they were depicted as being faceless. Hard to take the enemy seriously or get any emotional response about them when they're just faceless, nameless soldiers.

Crysis 2. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be after reading all those comments bagging it for being worse than the original. It's true that it's not, but I thought it does its own thing quite well.

Pretty retarded writing though. Aliens in New York. Right, so why are they in New York? How did they get there? What're they doing now they're there? Important questions to answer. All answered when the game is finished so you spend the entire time wondering what the hell is going on.

Yeah not a bad game, just a very disappointing one. And that story, I was wary as soon as an 'author' was announced as writing it and said author turned around and started bashing games with great stories for supposedly having bad ones.

Really enjoying Transformers Fall of Cybertron, been playing through single player so far then i'll move onto the multi. Seems they've done everything better than WFC, considering that was awesome. Only bad thing is no 4 player co-op :(

Interesting, you've both repiqued my interest. Loved WFC but didn't think this one would be different enough to be worth getting. Absolutely loved the multiplayer in it too but that died pretty quickly.

It's more of the same, but there's more to it.

The story in this is much more character driven, more how each Transformer you play as impacts what's happening, not this is happening, go do this. It also has a weapon/transformer upgrade system, collect currency/resources as you play through, can spend it at various upgrade stations scattered throughout the world. There's audio logs to find, to give more background information on the world and the war, and on and on.

It feels like they've taken what was a solid basis, and made it a much more complete game.

It also looks better than the first one, a lot more colour involved.

Well, for a guy who was going to return this within a week of its launch, I'm pretty bloody stoked. 715GS so far, all I have left are sorceries/miracles/knight's honour, fire/strongest/divine weapons, the dark ending and to join the sunbro's (for whom I already have enough medals to get all their miracles). I didn't get the white and red slab on my first walkthrough so I'm going to need to play as far as Nito when I hit NG++. Got the catch-pole tonight (titanite demon's weapon), *drool*, and reckon I only need one or two in each collection achievement.

My first proper 1000 was Bad Company 2 (subsequently lost due to the Vietnam DLC that I couldn't be bothered with) the next would have been DiRT2 on PC were it not for a corrupt save file and THREE glitched achievements... So the fact that I can see 1000GS in sight for Dark Souls has me very excited. If the new DLC has cheevos I'll quite happily get them too :)

PC version unlocks on Steam tomorrow, might leave it until I've finished this one first.

I have never understood the GS addiction.. maybe that's why I don't like the hats in TF2 :P Maybe I'm just grumpy.

Started playing ME1 for the first time last night with the intent of actually completing the trilogy back to back, not sure if I can do it though as thats a lot of hours to do it properly. In other news.. seriously considering buying a 360 even though I don't need one.

Neither did I. Achievements do nothing for me either. I played ME1 on the 360. Shocking frame rate issues...

Started up fear 2. Definitely not as good as the first one but good enough to get me hooked.

I did this not long ago... I played ME1 once for a bit and really didn't like it. I made myself play it for at least 2 hours. Halfway through ME3 atm and ~50 hours later (including second ME2 play through) and it's one of my favourite series.
