yeah well you might want to turn off the kick vote, got in a server and 10 seconds later someone started a kickvote against me because the group that was in there were waiting for 1 of their friends

Your avatar is freaking me out.

I'll see about disabling vote-kicking tomorrow.

I'm all against kick vote being abused, but that seems like a fairly legitimate use of it to me. It's much easier for a solo player to find a new server than it is for a group to.

If they want to play only with their friends then they can go make their own server and play there or just leave themselves and find an empty server. I'd like to see them try that with me...

I personally am not really a fan of TF2, mainly because I like playing with people I know whilst talking to them in TS and I don't have any friends that play TF2 so I never really got into it, but I've been playing the MvM and enjoying it.
I love pyrovision. :D I found a Rainblower, BEST! ITEM! EVER!

I find games with randoms can be really really bad. I think it's made worse because there's only 6 players so whereas in a 24p PvP you can afford to have a number of uncooperative players and still have others to work with in a MvM game having just 3 players randomly doing their own thing makes the game pretty awful since the bots aren't hampered by their crapness :)

It's a bit sad coz it forces you to lobby up with friends and face the queues in order to get reserved slots, or hope to find an empty server that no one else joins in the meantime. Hopefully as the server shortage + matchmaking gets better things will improve.

Curiously I found during the first 24 hours the general standard of MvM gameplay was higher, presumably coz it was mostly TF2 regulars playing it. Whereas now I'm guessing there's new F2Ps, and returning irregulars (lol) who are just there to do their own thing.

Also as I've been running my own server I noticed a lot of overseas randoms joining. I've had folks happily playing from Eastern Europe, Thailand, and a guy from New York! I guess since it's not PvP the ping doesn't matter as much.

Servers with spectators is heaps better now - even if it's not meant to be that way. I had a heap of trouble joining servers with 4 or 5 players while it was mid-round but as soon as the round finished and no more bots were there, i could join.

Vote kick is useful, when 1 player is AFK or being an absolute moron - it's really handy. I've played a stack of hours being home sick since MvM came out and i haven't encountered any dubious kick-voting.

FYI if a server is in matchmaking mode and you connect directly often the player slots are reserved for lobby based players who may still be joining (it can take a while). So sometimes after connecting directly it appears there are available slots but until the lobby reservation times out you can't take the slot. It's kind of annoying but also makes sense from matchmaking POV -- they don't want lobby players to end up on servers where a slot is already taken.

It's a bit annoying coz it's much faster to connect directly to a server than to go through matchmaking but if you do that there's a good chance you won't get 6 players for a while.

Played some advanced maps on goosmurf's server last night, was pretty challenging and lots of fun (thanks goosmurf!). Almost every wave the bomb ended up right at the end, with robots dying just as they're jumping in. Required some great teamwork and everyone to contribute to win, and in the end we managed to get through two maps successfully.

Much better than Normal mode, which to me feels much the same as spawn-camping dustbowl against a terrible team (including the occasional unexpected loss as a spy/scout gets through).

Is "advanced2" even harder?

Those were by far the best games I've played in MvM :) After you left a couple of random players joined and neither had played Advanced before. After failing the first round 5 times I asked one of them to Medic coz he wasn't having much luck as a Demo but he didn't have a Kritzkrieg medigun. So I gave him a Kritz and we then progressed to the final round! We failed the final round twice and hit the timelimit but TBH by that point everyone had had enough anyway.

So Advanced isn't as crazy super hard as I first thought and like mani said it's a lot more fun than Normal, as long as you have cooperative team mates.

FWIW we finished Mannworks Advanced without an engy... Sniper, Pyro, Solly, Heavy, Medic and a Scout who switched to Demo in the final round. I really dig that with a cooperative team you don't need an Engy even though intuitively you'd think Engy is a must have.

It's some "Endurance" mode ... I think it only has 3 waves but they are mega long. Hopefully try it out tonight :D

Iv'e only played around for about an hour or so but found it incredibly fun with a decent group of players. If anyone is setting up a server or needs a 6th for a game and wants a +1 please think of me!

How are you finding a server? Matchmaking? Use the server browser if you're playing solo imo.
