USB powered speakers are a rare breed these days. Your best bet is to use 3.5mm to RCA adaptors.

This is what I am considering.

In case anyone wondered why I wanted this its because my old TV is dying and I wanted to use a monitor for video from my HDD recorder and plug speakers in via the HDD recorders USB for power and RCA jacks for audio.

Unfortunately, the cable I bought to take the red, green & blue from the HDD Recorder to the VGA of the monitor doesn't work properly as everything looks rather green.

If your wondering why I would want to go off the HDD Recorder like this, its because if I replace my TV I will have to replace the HDD recorder as well (which has nothing wrong with it), so I figured to use a monitor I already had to do the job for video, I just wanted to hunt down some speakers because powering a hifi just to have sound is a waste of power.

I'd say you have tried this.

Have you tried to swap the colours around in different combos to see if which ones give you colour, I had to do this a long time ago, it might work for your setup or totally flop. ;)

Like the others have said just grab the plug converter cheaper option than messing around.

USB powered speakers are generally cheap ones. We sell them through work purely to "make some noise" when people want it. You could use the USB to power it, and use a 3.5mm female jack to L & R RCA plugs though.
