Sleeping Dogs: General Discussion - Released Early!

Unread postby inz » 17 Aug 12, 9:04 am

Bought it yesterday afternoon, still working through the "beginnings" of the game so far - so I haven been blown away yet. The combat sequences are cool, and the story's great - I just wish the cars weren't horrible to drive. And WHY don't but outs work with the regular brakes... I've been driving around smoking it up with the handbrake locked on all night... That's not how burn outs work! Handling is a little clunky too, especially motorbikes.

Sleeping Dogs: General Discussion - Released Early!

I never went in expecting GT5 - but I wasn't expecting Mario Kart either. GTA4 nailed it for me.

Played a bit more today - just say I am getting sucked in :)

I'm still on the fence about this one. I've put it in my wishlist though and may wait for a sale.

I'm concerned as this game went through development hell (though not to the same degree that Duke Nukem Forever did).

Also, how's the PC port?

So far the PC port has been fantastic for me! Graphics are gorgeous (and actually push the limits of my system), very smooth gameply, HD textures. They've done a good job on this.

Yeah graphics wise (with the texture pack installed) I was very impressed, as my expectations were low for a multi-platform game. The controls/camera seem a little quirky for me, given the button mashing nature of the game and the fact that I use a keypad. I get the impression a gamepad may be better.

Sleeping Dogs: General Discussion - Released Early!

It's definitely a console/game pad game. The camera can be frustrating with a controller, don't know about the mouse controls.

I'd give it a shot dude, it's somewhere between Yakuza, GTA4 and Saints Row. Thankfully, all of the good parts and not the annoying ones. Minus a few camera quirks and a few frustrating combat difficulties (probably down to my skill level more than it actually being a gameplay issue) its a great game.

Some of the gunplay/hand combat stuff is just awesome to watch/play. It's worth a crack. IGN have said its a standalone game, not something to tide over between the next GTA/Saints game. I'd agree. The story is pretty good too, quite immersive, and at times I found myself forgetting completely that Shen is an undercover cop, not a Yakuza. Which is sort of the point, all the stuff id read previously stated that the story revolves around the blurred line between good/bad, loyalty/the law, friends/criminals.

It does it very well.

Yeah, I've been reading those reports on all the different characters in the phone, it gives really good back story, as well as on the main character Wei Shen. Really enjoying the story.

Sleeping Dogs: General Discussion - Released Early!

Unread postby inz » 18 Aug 12, 3:05 pm

I never bothered to read any of that.

I finished the game just now, wish the story mode was a bit longer, kind of seems unfinished. Was hoping I'd get to lead some of my own heists/raids or something. But alas.

Definitly worth a go, I skipped most of the annoying side missions like races etc. so perhaps that's why I feel a bit gypped on play time.

I'll give it a go eventually. I just need a new graphics card at the moment because mine's giving up the ghost (worst possible time too as it's a weekend).

Wow.
The game looks amazing!

What kind of specs are needed to max it out? Looking at it, I'd say I may not quite be able to.
It is worth playing without a controller? Although, I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick it up regardless.
