They did a recap of Episode 1 at the start of Episode 2, so that certainly wouldn't be out of the question. It would almost be expected given the amount of time which has passed. Though nobody knows if HL3 is a continuation of the story as we know it (i.e. "episode 3") or whether it will be a completely knew storyline/characters. I thought I read somewhere that Gabe mentioned an intent to move away from the Gordon Freeman story arc after one more game.

One of my original links has some quotes from GabeN explaining that Freeman will be in the next iteration…

To me, Half-Life has always been about Freeman's story. Opposing Force and Blue Shift were interesting, experiencing the Black Mesa incident from different perspectives but I still saw it as Freeman's story. If they manage to wrap that up in HL3/Ep3 or whatever than so be it, but any continuation of the story that doesn't involve Freeman in my opinion would be gimmicky and to me would feel like somewhat of a cash grab on the Half-Life universe.
