NEWS PORTAL: Dark Souls almost doubles in price on PC today

Unread postby Matty » 27 Jul 12, 11:28 am

Twitter user Sean Gabriel just pointed out to us that the Steam price for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition has almost doubled today, going up from $39.95 to the new price of $69.95. No reason was given for the change, and international prices remain unchanged with US players paying $39.99 for their copies. We’ve contacted NamcoBandai for an explanation and will let you know what we learn.

I signed the petition to get it on PC, then I accepted the fact that it would have GFWL. This however, will stop me buying it.

A kind forum user pointed out that GMG had it for $32 with use of a coupon yesterday... unfortunately, I couldn't remember my GMG password and screwed up the recover password, so I missed out. :(

No I didn't, still works:

And yay for being able to discuss news articles in a "normal" way. :P

Yes it's much nicer to have the news come up in the new posts page.
While the latest news space waster shows the latest news (if you read that correctly fist go, props), it's not exactly telling that it's got new comments or is actually new without having a good look and thinking about if it's new.

GFWL was an instant nope for myself, however to then double the price... Why did they even bother to release it on PC just to screw over possible customers?
I hope that people only purchase it for a reasonable price, I'd must rather people not purchase it at all and then maybe they will realise that people don't like to be screwed and release it without GFWL and at a reasonable price.

I was looking forward to playing a brutally hard game for once, too bad I suppose.

Because, unlike the common consensus, Australia isn't the whole world. We're the only ones getting screwed on price - the rest of the world is still paying $40. Given that we represent a tiny minority of potential customers, it's kind of a moot point form the publishers point of view. Why specifically screw Australians over? Because they can (and because the local distributors don't want to compete with global pricing).

Either way, I paid $32 for it (see post above). Can't really complain at that price... although I would admittedly have preferred no GFWL.

I'd really prefer to see some original thought put into news forum posts, rather than just a copy and paste. Otherwise, it's just spam. Done every day will get tiresome.

Uhhh... no, you're spam. >.>

Seriously? After endless threads breaking down to "the news comments system is not going to change, you're welcome to start threads to discuss the news in your preferred venue (ie. the forums)", now the tack is "no, don't do that - it's spam". I like having the news articles brought to my attention via the forums - I'm not going to see them any other way.

Not particularly impressed. :/

That's nice - I prefer it this way.

Was kind of on the fence about getting it on PC as I already have it on PS3 - it being on Steam was definitely in its favour. There is no way I'm paying that kind of money for it though.

My comments there clearly referred to starting your own original commentary with original thought, not just copy and pasting what another person wrote.

One of the big criticisms people had with the old system was that the news forum was overcrowded. People asked what the point was about the competitions, hardware forums etc.

Just think about what will happen if someone posts 5 news topics in general a day, with no extra thought put into them. This forum will end up crowded with topics with 0 replies.

Which people? That's news to me... admittedly, the sub forums for the content links were rarely used, but that's an organisational issue.

I'll be a happy man, and I might actually bother reading some GON content. I know I'm not the only person who feels this way. Last I checked, the forums don't actually run out of room, so to speak... so what does it matter?

If the current comment system for news articles wasn't so sucky, we wouldn't have to do this. This way is much better for discussion.

Perhaps if the database gets to big, the hamster will get tired.

As for the topic at hand, Australia gets shafted again. To be honest, I don't really know what can be done. We could boycott it, but they wouldn't care for the same reason they didn't care about hiking the price in the first place. We are to small a market

To be fair I think the majority of the posts saying make your own threads was Makena. This is also what I said would happen, people would come and be all unimpressed by replicating news articles.

Pretty much. It wasn't the users who stopped using the subforums, it was the news crew. Everything got lumped into General News after Chienne and co. left for who knows why and I for one wasn't happy but what I wanted to see was the news get placed where they belonged again, not for the whole system to be scrapped.

Also anyone else realize we're giving James heaps of ammo for his offtopic arguments? >_>

It would be pretty rich for him to try that considering it was a news writer that deliberately derailed the thread.

I already own this on PS3 but haven't really found the right time to sit down and play it. On PC it would always be there waiting, but I would wait till price dropped, especially with regional pricing. I got it on PS3 for around $20.

Yeah but it was one of "them" who started it!
