I enjoyed it, but honestly I felt it was a bit too messy and tried to cram too much in. I think this happens almost inevitably with every trilogy end, but it felt like so many things were there just for kicks - I appreciated all the references (Knightfall, Year One, No Man's Land, etc), but at the same time I couldn't also help but think "Was that really necessary?"

I dunno! Good fun, but I think the simplicity of The Dark Knight means it was actually a better film in the end. Bane was great though, but I really struggled to understand him at some points. Maybe it's because I have a cold.

Nitpick: you're probably thinking of The Dark Knight Returns. Batman: Year One was what Batman Begins was loosely based off. The Dark Knight Returns is an elseworlds with Bruce Wayne returning to 'future' Gotham after retiring.

I didn't mind that it was all 'crammed in' so to speak. Over the trilogy they did a pretty good job of interpreting all of the so called 'definitive' modern Batman stories. Batman Begins gets Year One and a bit of The Long Halloween. The Dark Knight covers the rest of The Long Halloween, plus some The Killing Joke. The Dark Knight Rises gets Knightfall, The Dark Knight Returns and No Man's Land. If you had to make a list of essential 'Batman Comics' reading you couldn't go too wrong with those.

I think part of the problem may have been that TDKR was too busy trying to definitively end the trilogy whereas TDR was just there to be a damn fun ride.

Ah, yes, sorry - I am actually referring explicitly to Selina's friend/lover(??) when I say Year One, as her whole role (and appearance) are basically directly taken from Catwoman in Year One. :)

Oh yeah Holly Robinson. I forgot she was in Year One lol. I didn't really like Selina's part in Year One (Year One is the 'dark gritty' reboot to usher in the Modern Batman era, and Selina is a woman meaning she has to be a prostitute? Yeah... Thankfully most depictions of Catwoman ignore that aspect of Year One). Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman run that started in 2002 is where I remember her most from. If you're looking for good Catwoman stories, that's definitely be where to start imo.

amazing.

only word i can use to describe it.

While TDK was good, i think it was mostly successful due to heath ledgers death, and that made people focus more on how awesome the joker was. imo, bane was just as good as the joker. While he was hard to understand sometimes, i imagine with that mask on he'd not be the easiest to understand bloke anyway, so a bit more realistic than clear dialogue, i like that.

Glad it wasn't just me that had issues with understanding Bane. Enjoyed the movie though, was a good finale to the trilogy.

5/10 for me. The thing that pissed me off the most was when it was mentioned all the cops in gotham are in the tunnels, then proceeded to spout numbers of around 3000. I'm sorry, Gotham is based on NYC, and NYC has approx 54000 employed police.

Also, Bane sounded very much like a Sean Connery James Bond.

Lol cross Deckard with the SNL Connery and you have Bane.

if thats what pissed you off the most, then sadly you're missing the entire point of the movie...

There is a long long list of things I found to be wrong with the movie, but that moment was the most aggravating for me. I got the whole point of the movie, I just didn't find it anywhere near as good as Batman Begins or The Dark Knight.

It was only inner city Gotham that was cut off, not the entirety of Gotham City. If you want to compare to NYC, it'd be like say Manhattan getting cut off from Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.

yeah I feel the same way. so many things happened. so many settings, quite a number of characters, so many events. it's hard to come up with any way they could have cleaned it up, but if I could I would be a film director/writer.

movie was good. had a few really good moments. nothing amazingly holy-shit-did-you-see-that, but solid.

can't wait to see what Snyder and Nolan come up with, even though the franchise they are working on is slightly meh. two of my favourite directors.

Meh. Not nearly as good as the second and I can't even remember the first. The story was very "comic book-esque", which is fine, but The Dark Knight went beyond that and it's a letdown to see this one not reach that level.
Anne Hathaway was the highlight for me which was very surprising - I went in expecting her and her character to be the low point of the movie (going off trailers).
