^good point, if you want to buy good all-round headphones to double as "on the go" I'd get something like these

as for open vs closed, open sound better fullstop IMO, even if they do let in some outside noise. Personally I like being able to hear cars that are about to run me over anyway lol

Yes - Nice headphones apparently, but with one more subjective complication regarding comfort.
On ear vs over ear....

Regarding closed vs open. I did find the closed did not reduce the incoming sound as much as expected, just a bit muffled.
I suppose you need proper noise canceling headphones to fully cut out the background.
Regarding sound quality. I do find the closed more fatiguing and the open more natural as is supposed to be the case, but for gaming I kind of prefer the up-front sound, and bass resonance of the closed. Still early days though. I'll probably stick with the AD700 in the long run just for the lightweight and comfort.

Played a game with these on the other day: http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=94

... these headphones are so STRONG. Explosions would tickle my nose.

Yeah the Beyer's always have a nice thump, but sometimes regarded as less dynamic.

I'd avoid the Z6A personally as it seems to have build quality issues (based on my previous experience with the MW3 version of that headset).

I'd go with a Plantronics Gamecom headset personally. They last for quite a while from my experience.

Definitely not an 'on the go' headphone I wouldn't say. They're completely open, so the person next to you will hear almost as clearly as you do wearing them :P

As for mics, I've tried a few.
Zalman's ZM-MIC 1 worked pretty damn well, was a very clear mic, $12 on PCCG.

I've just got a ModMic in the mail today

A bit pricier than the Zalman, but it's a mic on an adjustable boom which just feels better for me.
They're refreshing it at the moment, bringing out a new model, hence it shows sold out on http://www.modmic.com right now.
