Yeah seems to be getting closer to 60 injured now. Not sure what figures to believe now.

Apparently the shooter was dressed up as the Joker.

Don't think so, everything i've read indicated he was wearing full ballistic gear, vest, helmet, legs, everything.

I've heard the same.

It's a sad event though, and I wish those who suffered and their families all the best, and I hope they hang the asswipe.

naturally people are talking about modifying gun laws. this will probably be a good idea to a certain degree, but there are so many guns going around that it would take a very long time for it to be difficult to get hold of a gun.

I think people should instead be talking about diagnosing and treating mental issues. a mentally healthy person don't do these sorts of things.

It needs to be tackled from both sides. Restricting access to deadly weapons and better methods/tools and systems for detecting and treating mental health issues.

My main issue with gun ownership isn't that responsible gun owners aren't safe. It's more that it's very unlikely that someone will have a perfect life where they aren't dealing with stress, depression at some point in their life. Most mental health issues can be treated and helped, but if a mentally unstable person has access to a gun, the amount of time society has to act to help them is reduced.

He told police he was the Joker, but was dressed in body armor etc as Neko stated.

Colorado is a death penalty state as well. So I'm pretty sure we know how this will end for him.

General consensus from Americans I have seen commenting on this story - more of the public needs to carry guns to stop this kind of thing happening. It truly is a whole other world over there.

Shoots a bunch of people sitting down to watch a movie, but surrenders the moment people who can shoot back arrive. Bloody coward.

I think a lot of the time the fact that they're taken alive has a lot to do with a desire to back in the infamy rather than out-and-out cowardice. I'm not really sure which would scare me more, a relatively quick death from a bullet or spending the rest of my life in jail; possibly on death row.

Well it is true, if another person was CC'ing then they could have stopped him.
