I don't see the connection.

A lot of stuff from The Old Republic was blocked off in beta. The GW2 beta has gone past level 40 (out of 80), and has let players experience general pve, crafting, dungeons, structured pvp at max level cap, world pvp, and the game's version of raiding.

That's a lot better than playing from 1-15 like in the SWTOR betas... GW2 has shown us half the leveling content so far as well as the end game. And it's enough for me to feel satisfied with my $60 purchase. SWTOR was again about a $100+ purchase due to it having a monthly sub.

Not everyone talking it up has experienced it first-hand for months.

... and not everyone who's experienced it first-hand for months thinks it won't disappoint people. ;)

I'd imagine there'll be some kind of trial or demo or friend pass available at some point but asking about it two months out from launch is stupid, especially when there's no subscription fee involved and they'd reeeeeeally like to sell a lot of copies.

That was just the public betas. SWTOR content past that was beta tested extensively. That's part of what took so long.

Well, I was saying I had experienced it first hand for months, and wasn't going to be disappointed. I'm not going to turn and be suddenly disappointed.

Bearing in mind of course that GW2 only set me back $60, and has no ongoing costs (apart from me wanting to buy some dye packs). A big part of the reason I got disappointed in SWTOR was the huge cost. It set me back easily more than $120 for the limited play time I had.

For $120 I expected a lot, lot more, and honestly felt like I was subsidizing the voice acting budget for storylines I had no interest in playing.

These days MMOs really have to work hard to justify their high cost, and I found that SWTOR didn't for me. But with GW2 I don't really care how it turns out past my experience so far, because what I've played is enough in itself for a $60 game.

Pre-ordered GW2 the second it was available based on my love of GW1 alone.

Can't wait. I have played all the beta weekends and stress tests. Started to feel a bit bored on the last one but I think that was because there's only one dungeon available and a lot of zone are offline and the PVP, well I couldn't see what the 'hook' was with that. But I think if I just stop playing it now until release day, I will have a fresh batch of motivation to build a new character, knowing that there are no more limits!

PvP? you get to chop and stab someone and watch them down on the ground trying to poke you with their downed skill before you impale them with your banner...

Eternal battleground central castle fight aside, the entire Myst warzone was a whole lot of fun overall... DAOC style...
