It's actually pretty amusing that the steadfast dedication to Civ5 in this thread is almost completely opposite to the thread on the review of G&K's at RPS.

RPS has grown increasingly cynical and **** of late, to be honest... both in the content and in the once intelligent user commentary. It used to be a great read and funny to boot, now it appears to be increasingly a whingefest, cheap shots and trolling.

Bring back Kieron and Quintin! :)

edit2: Mind you, I'm not really sure what the point of the comment was. This article was posted on GON, what does it matter what RPS readers might think of a different article (with a somewhat more comprehensive assessment of the expansion, I must say)?

edit: I just scanned through the comments. Seems to be fairly evenly split between "it's not Civ IV/I hate hexes/bring back stacks of doom" and "I like the changes in Civ V". Pretty much none of them touch upon the expansion and merits (or not) thereof. Selective reading perhaps? You might also note that a not insignificant percentage of the incredibly negative comments are made by the same poster/troll: "x1501".

I don't understand why you are holding my comments to such high esteem, it was just an observation between two PC focused websites and two articles on the same game. It's perfectly relevant and just something interesting I noticed.

Dunno, there just seemed to be an element of attempted vindication on your part.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into your vociferous "discussion" that eventually petered out with a "based on the overwhelming response, it looks like I'm going to found a religion". Something you'd think might have been worthwhile when reviewing the expansion... what with it being a core feature and all. :?

As a counterpoint, have a read of the discussion over at civfanatics:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=464846

Fairly overwhelmingly positive. Clearly, the vast majority of posts on this forum (and there) are from people who have actually bought and played the expansion - something you'd imagine people wouldn't do if they hated Civ V.

Presumably, GON people who disliked vanilla have better things to do with their time than complain about something they aren't interested in (unlike what you see over at RPS).

You can still get it for a much more reasonable 26.99 USD at Green Man Gaming. At half the local price, it's a much more palatable spend.

Cheers! $19.49 atm.
