Hindu Leader Respectfully Asks for Removal of Deities from Game - Devs Refuse

Unread postby News Portal » 28 Jun 12, 3:36 pm

In SMITE, you play deities from various pantheons to bring some old world justice down on your enemies, for your entertainment. The problem for Rajan Zed, President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, is that, given Hinduism is still practiced, he finds the depiction of his gods all kinds of disrespectful.

Accordingly, Rajan has asked Hi-Rez to remove them from the game, saying video game makers should be more sensitive with regard to faith-related subjects, Todd Harris, COO for Hi-Rez, has refused. "SMITE includes deities inspired from a diverse and ever expanding set of pantheons including Greek, Chinese, Egyptian, and Norse," said Harris. "Going forward SMITE will include even more deities, not fewer."

Luckily Hindu's aren't known to bomb people out of these sort of thing... Hold on...

OK game idea but there are serious nutters out there. Like they actually believe!

Imagine a game where Jesus is brandishing a good dosage of **** kicking with moves like GRAND CROSS!!! and bludgeon enemies to death with his cross...

all sorts of awesome right?

also guaranteed to get the church screaming to the press about it...

While I have no issue with the inclusion of any god current or historical... I'd the find the response from Todd Harris more convincing if Hi-Rez added Jehovah, Allah and Father/Son/HolyGhost to the game. :)

Completely agree. Either all religions are fair game or none are.
Yes, I do play halo. But let me assure you that I think your mother is a classy lady and, that I have no opinion about your sexual preference or prowess.

Fair game, as long as nobody is being hurt they should be in. Also, lack of Judeo-Christian God is kinda bogus.

Thought they already did that with a version of the 'Left Behind' game, but that was Christians making it so it's OK.

Lol as if Christians would give a **** about god/jesus being in a game. If anything they'd like it I'd think. I'd so play as Jesus too.

Sounds kinda lame actually... the cross was never a weapon, and the christian deity doesn't really have any tangible stylised 'type'.

Russacky wrote:Completely agree. Either all religions are fair game or none are.

All religions ARE fair game... that doesn't mean they will all appeal to the games target market. The christian god is boring to westerners.

There are fundamentalist whackjob christians just as there are fundi whackjobs of other religions...
