Reggie Feels Gamers Are 'Insatiable', 'Never Satisified'

Unread postby News Portal » 25 Jun 12, 10:19 am

Nintendo's Reggie loves the enthusiasm that comes with being a gamer. But sometimes, he says, that enthusiasm can get a little daunting. “One of the things that, on one hand, I love and, on the other hand, that troubles me tremendously about not only our fanbase but about the gaming community at large is that, whenever you share information, the perspective is, ‘Thank you, but I want more'," he told Kotaku in an interview.

Much like his hunger for human flesh, he describes gamers as 'insatiable', adding, "And so for years this community has been asking, 'Where's Pikmin?' 'Where's Pikmin?' 'Where's Pikmin?' We give them Pikmin. And then they say, 'What else?' [...] it's an interesting challenge." Finally, he went on to nail down what he thought was the problem, "I would argue that the gaming community actually is unable to differentiate between a phenomenon and something that is 'ho-hum.'"

Interesting points, I would argue though that a ho-hum game can be a phenomenon, just look at the continuation of the CoD series, so there is times where there is no differentiation to be made between the two.

Of course gamers taking some information and running rampant with it isn't particularly new and expectations can quickly become unrealistic if information is released in "teaser" fashion.

Ahahahahahah, nice try.

Really, I love Nintendo, but I strongly disagree with that statement.

"Boo hoo, my customers have a high degree of interest in my products and wish to know about them and purchase them."

In related news, scientists have discovered that people who work in successful games companies exist in a parallel universe where they have no exposure whatsoever to the conditions that apply to businesses in virtually every other area of human endeavour.

not only our fanbase but about the gaming community at large

2 things.

1. because this only applies to 'the gaming community' and not every area of interest anyone ever has, right? its not like sports fans always want more .etc right?

2. the 'gaming community at large' generally doesn't give 2 **** about Nintendo and their mostly **** games.
I couldn't tell you what a 'pikmin' is, much less want it.

Your loss mate, pikmin is BRILLIANT. Nintendo have only made about two bad first-party games in their entire history.

I gave up on Nintendo because of the same reason. They've re-released SMB so many times it's embarrassing. To be fair though, most of their franchise games are good when they aren't rehashes, but I can't justify paying for a console set up for only 4-5 games.

That's about it for me, too. I've enjoyed most of the games they've made but in recent years things have been getting too same-y for me (though I find personally that applies to most games and companies in general these days) so I can't really invest myself in their products as much any more, nor justify the cost.
