I'm going to see it again tomorrow night, I need to look at it a different way than the first time to fully enjoy it I think.

Yeah was a bit of confusing movie at times but still great.

Spoiler

Hidden: show
Oh wow look at these paintings
Oh i think they want us to find them

Something happened here

Oh wow were on a ship and just a few minutes from landing at some unknown planet.

Now not sure if i had a micro sleep and missed a huge chunk of story (highly possible i had a big day at work but 99.9% sure i didn't)or they've forgotten to fill us in with some details here.

The movies seemed to do that quite a bit, made it hard to really get to know the characters before they get face raped.

Also how can people say it's not a prequel WHAT THE **** WAS THAT AT THE END ?

I might be wrong but looks almost like a xenomorph to me (maybe a first evolution)

You never know, the director's cut might feature the fascinating deleted scenes of Weyland and scientists convincing the shareholders and budget oversight committee into funding the trip. I also eagerly await the extra scenes which go into the job application, interview and back story of every damn crew member ;)

I like how you didn't spoiler tag what was IMO the biggest plot reveal of all ;)

yeah I thought this as well initially.

but after thinking about it I remembered the xenomorph looking creature on the wall in the room with the big skull. so it seems like that is the eventual form of their black evolution juice. I guess the engineers could have coded an approximate end form of the evolution, and whatever else it looks like depends on it's path.

Scott has said the movie is in the same "universe" but not necessarily a direct prequel. keep in mind prometheus and alien/aliens are on different planets. this sort of makes the theory above make more sense. the engineers have multiple ships with this black ****/weapon on it, and it's been designed to eventually turn whatever into a xenomorph.

Word on the street is that there won't be a director's cut. The DVD/Blueray will have deleted scenes only

I actually really enjoyed the fact that they didn't BS around having a massive build up like they do in most movies. I thought it was quite fresh that Ridley didn't dick around and got straight to the point. Although he didn't really spend much time building up the characters I reckon he even did that for a reason. No one knew WTF was going on because in essence the entire crew was secondary to the primary mission, ie: getting Weyland's withered body closer to immortailty. Holloway's mission was not important, he just found the location with Shaw. Even the characters didn't know each other and again I think Ridley made a point of this becuase most people were out for themselves either to make money, had their own personal agenda and again this wasn't even important considering the primary mission. This kind of theme crops up in most of the Alien films. Even when Fifield and that other dude got left behind and subsequently monsterised, the fact that no-one was looking out for them on the bridge of Prometheus at the time they found the "assflower" is of importance as well

Yeah it is. It looked different because the Xenomorph's appearance changes depending on the host, so the one we saw was unique to the Engineer corpse being the host. At least that's what i gathered (just saw it tonight).

Having seen it today I will say I thought it was rubbish. It started with some bad science that had me worried then got worse as the religious (christian) overtones were lazily sloshed all over the place (I started reading that essay but couldn't finish it but confirmed enough for me). None of the story really made sense, character development was rubbish, the 'scares' were cheap and the FX nothing spectacular.

DID NOT LIKE.
