Do you need to pay tax on profits from this?

Arbritage is only profitable with normal gambling by not paying the tax on winnings like your supposed to, and basicaly defrauding the gov't

My belief is that you need to pay tax on the withdrawals to paypal, yes.

I think it depends on your version of 'profitable' I find making 200+ dollars a day profitable, you may not.

one thing to be careful of is when you compare prices. if you are trying to get an approximate price for an item by comparing to something on either AH, keep in mind that the items that are up haven't sold. if you see something for 10million and it has 2hrs left, chances are 10mil is too much for the item.

the result is you can't get an immediate idea of what an item is worth, you need to keep an eye on the prices of items that are similar.

You are better of with shares

it's not 30%. it's 15%, and it's not really clear who gets what. it goes to blizzard, but they could be paying paypal. anyway, that's not the point.

make a living? I doubt many people could be making a living off of arbitrage. there would be enough people attempting it to make it very difficult.

there is definitely money in it, and if you enjoy it, then that's awesome.

my intent is to get a character going that can farm the later acts and then sell those items. that way I can enjoy playing the game, as well as enjoying selling the items. and top of all this, I get a bit of actual money.

You can't make **** unless you can clear at LEAST act 2 inferno... preferably 3/4.

Personally I'd rather go to my day job than do inferno runs all day... much less monotonous. Hell, working at burger king would probably be less monotonous... you'd make more $ too

doesn't matter, the upcoming patch will not only make it easier to farm Act 2 onwards, it also improves all the loot table and Act1 in particular gets the chance to drop IL63 items as well.

incidentally, a word of warning to those who wish to purchase lacuni prowler bracers...

IAS is going to be nerfed in 1.0.3, the price for these items like lacuni prowler bracer will most likely come crashing down as well once IAS lose a good chunk of it's value, so bear that in mind when you trade them.

the same applies to all IAS items, so think twice before purchasing and trading attack speed items, because we don't know for sure when exactly the price will start nose diving...

but we can expect that ppl will start realizing it already, so might wanna be prepared for the upcoming price crash for IAS gears. If you have IAS gear, you might wanna liquidate them before they lose their value further, and if you don't then you might wanna wait till the patch hits and price for them becomes dirt cheap.

that's one theory. the other is that it's still a useful mod, so people will be trying and getting IAS on all the items they can, making them more expensive.

in any case, I don't see IAS being dropped by monks. and it's still going be useful for all the other classes, it's just not going to be as in demand.

so far though, it seems the price is going down...

just last week for example a dex stat lacuni prowler with decent amount of stat can sell for over 10 million in GAH, now their price is going as low as 5 million and recently some in sub 5 million with a good stat on them are around as well.

at the rate in which this goes, it'll be rock bottom before this month is over.

... and you think this is going to make it EASIER for people to make money from the game?

hahahaha, GoN never ceases to amuse

whether it makes it easier to make money or not is open to debate, but my primary point there though was that you do not actually need to be able to clear those to make money out of the AH.

all you need is a starting asset, once you start the AH game rolling, you in fact do not need to play the actual game itself.

and to get this asset, you in fact could just as easily gold farm act4 hell for example which is very quick and efficient.

Legendaries for example like Lacuny Prowler, also drops at such a low rate that it's in fact more efficient to just farm the easier foes that still have a chance to drop them (hence why Act1 lightning run is extremely popular).

More so with legendaries that only drop in Hell like Justice lantern...

they command ridiculous price for just a single ring.

Hmm actually now that i think about it, every single set piece and legendaries can drop in Act 1 already, so i am not quite sure why you really need to go to Act 3/4 since the only thing i've ever gotten there that's of real value is the higher IL blue and rares (of which they drop very rarely anyway). The lower drop rate of the sets and legendaries in Act 1 doesn't really matter since it's so low to start with and you burn Act 1 a lot faster anyway.

You can start doing this once you have 10k or so, which is easy to get in the first 15 levels of playing.
