What distro? Been having heaps of trouble with ATI drivers for my laptop on ubuntu unfortunately (Official ones don't work so can't switch between integrated / dedicated), poor battery life etc. Haven't been bothered to go through the hugggge list of possible fixes though.

Are you using the new 12.04 LTS release? I've always had a range of driver issues with any linux distro but the new Ubuntu has been (shockingly) perfect in that regard. Battery life matches the performance I was getting on Win7 too.

Yeah 12.04, I think going from 12.04 beta to the lts fixed one or two things, but still can't use the proprietary drivers for the gpu. Which means you can't switch between cards in the OS, only through the bios.

ahh I see, you want the hot-swapping from the card to integrated graphics. Yeah that might be tricky unfortunately, I'm just on integrated so I've dodged that issue.
