Dead Space 3 to be Cover Shooter, Feature Co-Op, Drop Multiplayer

EA's upcoming Dead Space 3 has been confirmed to be introducing a cover-based mechanic similar to those found in Gears of War or Mass Effect. It will also pack a co-op feature where players can play as both Isaac or Carver, the man from the Dead Space graphic novel, while the competitive multiplayer from Dead Space 2 has been scrapped. New enemy types are promised, including twisted humans who have been forced to feed on infected Necromorphs to survive, and a 30-story-tall Necromorph centipede called 'the Nexus'.

Cover based shooter? Holy hell. Each entry into the Dead Space series drags the game down.

Stop trying to make games more like 'COD' or 'Gears'. Dead Space 1 was interesting and I would have loved the 2nd to hollow the horror element instead of making it more 'action oriented'.

There's a difference between being able to take cover and having the whole game revolve around the feature so let's just wait and see. Having said that the mere inclusion of the feature probably means the game will indeed revolve around it. :?

I'm happy to hear they aren't wasting time adding in MP outside of co-op, and that it isn't a FPS which was rumoured early on.
I do hope that they keep the same OTS style of play that the others had and not focus too much on the cover fire ****. In a game like Dead Space I thought the idea was that you were supposed to feel vulnerable, which this cover fire feature could possibly ruin.

The only cover you need in Dead Space is something to cover your ****. I don't want to be ducking in and out of cover. Pretty sure I spent the entire game in both DS 1 & 2 walking, I never hit the sprint button unless I needed to leg it away from something.

I feel this will only detract from the horror aspect of the game and just make it a more mainstream action game.

I always thought the dead space games would've been better from a first person perspective. I didn't mind the third person view, just I find for horror that first person is more immersive.
Being able to utilise cover is not a bad thing. It is just when design choices go too far and you see a room with too many waist-high demolished walls, barricades etc.

Might have to play this before a purchase me thinks :(
Slightly disappointing to hear. Begs the question why have a cover system when the majority of enemy types in the first two games don't have projectile weapons? Hopefully they don't turn this into just another shooter and keep some of the core elements that made the first two games fun i.e dismemberment.
