So my trusty old 9800GTX finally died so I'm in the market for a new card. I don't follow whats what as much as I used to so I have no idea what to buy that will have similar performance and I'm not loyal to ATI or nVidia. I mainly play CS:S and a bit of battlefield and run my RES at 2560x1600 on a 30 inch screen.
So what can people recommend for around the $150-$300 mark.
For your budget you'd be looking at either a GTX 570 which can be had for $300, or an AMD 7850 for around $270. Not sure what would be better for you at your high screen res though, the 570 is a more powerful card but the 7850 has 2GB VRAM which might be more useful. A GTX 670 2GB would be ideal but they start at around $480, there's not much inbetween.
Depends on what you want to play in the future. When you said Battlefield did you mean Battlefield 3? If not and you only play non demanding games like CSS you could get something really low, GTX560Ti would be the lowest I personally would go but I could see you getting something even cheaper given anything will be faster than the 9800GTX.
*Insert negative stuff here.*

The 9800GTX didn't do too badly used to average between 150 to 200fps @ 2560x1600 in CS:S with all settings on high (Yeah I know CS:S isn't too graphically intense). I had a spare ATI HD4350 that I'm using at the moment which is struggling to put out 25fps @ 2560x1600 with all settings on low so I'm not bothering to game until I replace it.
