the movement is a lot of fun

upon spawning I saw a giant hill nearby, compared to minecraft, its like going from bedrock to sky....twice - it was gigantic, I really cant stress this enough, so much bigger.

I got all the way to the top (took about half an hour after falling down so many times!) before it crashed.

Whereas Minecraft is for kids...this looks more like an older gamers Minecraft..downloading now...for my kids. :P
Admittidly, I'm quite interested in this myself...

Also good to see some texture filtering happening, so we get smooth looking textures...unlike Minecraft...

yeah, calling this sci-fi minecraft is completely underselling it.

having said that though the build they're letting us play at the moment seems to be maaany versions behind what they demo in the video.

Impressive. As much as I'd rather Minecraft if I want to play a game like this because I already have time invested into it. Will still be watching how this develops.

The lore from the readme:
Hidden: show
Code: Select all
Lore(This is subject to change at any time):

Earth  - Why We Left

During the years 2073-2253 Humanity enjoyed relative peace on earth and most funds were diverted to deep space exploration. Small bases were setup on the Moon and Mars. However a new problem soon emerged. Our star was dying. The estimates shown that within a thousand years the sun would die completely ensuring the extinction of humanity.

To deal with this harsh reality, the nations of Earth created the New Space Initiative. Drones were sent to scan the every earth-like planet in existence and send imagery and sounds back to Earth.

A planet was found and deemed habitable. They called it Atlas, due to their hopes that one day it would carry the Earth on its shoulders. At this time scientists discovered how to make objects travel at the speed of light. But Atlas was still too far away for a human to arrive in their lifetime.

So for the next 1000 years Earth sent resources to this new planet in hopes of one day sending humans there. Every corporation on Earth was required to send massive amounts of equipment and weaponry. They were contained in huge freighters on a one way mission. Robots were also sent to seed the land with common trees, grasses, food, and shrubs. It was soon determined via drone imagery that some creatures would take these supplies, and other would burrow underground with them. So an additional blueprint database was setup to allow all human knowledge to be categorised and would allow for easy creation should man ever gather resources on the new planet.

It was the dawn of the new millennium. There was a sombre tone in the streets of every city on every corner of the Earth. Everyone was under the shadow of death and freezing temperatures. It would have been better to be maimed and thrown in the depths of the seas then live through these times. But then it came. The invention of warp drive. Allowing man to travel into the depths of space within an instant.

In the year 3085 you leave. You have been chosen through a lottery system to leave Earth. Your only goal is to survive the new planet and ensure humanities survival.

Atlas - A Planetary Study

Atlas is situated near the Orion Belt. Containing a diameter and mass roughly the same as Earth. It's star is burning bright and at a safe distance that supports life.  It has one moon which seems to have collided with the planet in an indeterminate time. The repercussions of this are yet to be known. It's moon seems to be slowly disintegrating into Atlas.

There are many hostile creatures. They seem to originate from the depths of the planet. They are numerous. The Leech are the most common and seem to  come in many different forms.

Resources seem abundant. Any blueprint from Earth can be crafted. However, research will have to take place on the mineral content that is disintegrating from its moon. They seem to create veins throughout the surface. It is currently unknown why creatures congregate near these veins.

*This is an very early alpha build. Not everything seen in videos is released.*

It's good, and it's early so this is a bit bias, But all the good bits about the game are in the trailer, when you play it yourself it's far worse, and far more ugly than the trailer makes it look.

That being said, It has HUGE potential, But from the initial trailer, to playing my excitement went home "HOLY **** THIS GAME LOOKS AMAZING" to "Will leave this for a year and come back when there's been 99% more improvements.
