Max Payne 3 - PC Discussion

Unread postby Cas Bitton » 1 Jun 12, 3:44 pm

Well Max Payne 3 is here....and damn! What a download

When it eventually finishes downloading over the weekend I'll post my impressions. Has anyone else managed to finish the download yet? Thoughts?

I've been waiting almost 10 years for this, I'm pretty happy to wait a few more hours

It's HUGE in size.............. looks good in the trailers I've seen, been playing the old Max Payne 2 the last couple of days as well.

Will love to see 3 in action.

I've had to download a few games of that size, it's horrendous. Makes you wonder how they compress the same game onto a 9GB Xbox 360 DVD :\

I'll probably get it on PC at some point, Good Game made it look fantastic. I want to at least play the first two though.

I'd like to comment on the game except it appears retail copies have been delayed.

Australia Tax :(

@Ninja - supposedly the PC version has higher res textures that take up most of the extra room.

Hmm... makes sense. They'd must be **** huge textures!

Nice! :D Yeah I've been hearing nothing but great things from a few mates who have spent the past week playing through the Xbox/Ps3 versions :)

It's pretty easy to drop the content size if you significantly reduce the texture resolution and audio quality

Do this! :D They hold up well even today imo :)

Can someone confirm whether MP3 has a narration / comic style cutscenes like the previous 2? Cheers.

^ Nope, it's a different style of game. It gets away from the fantasy and heads for something more realistic.. Like a movie..

The story is still told in a noir style :)

Launch trailer does a good job of explaining:

I tried to get info on the DRM implementation in Max Payne 3 but it was an exercise in futility as Rockstar wouldn't provide the info I requested.

As such, I've cancelled my special edition preorder.

EDIT: I did manage to find out that GameShield (the DRM being used for retail copies) is also present in Steam copies. That combined with the "**** you" tax means I'll be skipping this one altogether.
DRM is like kids. The less you have, the better.

Yes it sucks they won't tell you how many PCs you can have simultaneously activated etc, but in all honesty does it matter?
I mean, if not being able to install on 3 computers at once has turned you off buying the game, you can't have wanted the game all that much I suspect.

Going to get it gifted from overseas, $90 is too much for a game.
