its not always the best marks, my gpa was 5.12, that's credit average, but out of the 30 people that graduated, Im the one with arguably the best job, one of the few who actually have a full time job.
I've found that the challenges I took in uni have helped the most, I didn't always get the best mark, but coming into the industry and being faced with a problem, I can go "I attempted this at uni, and I know where I went wrong, I won't make the same mistake" compared to others who avoided the challenges.
as marius said, they don't emphasize everything at uni, but then again, they only had 3 years to try and teach everything
