Help/Advice plz

Unread postby TigaHawk » 29 May 12, 11:15 am

Hello!

I'm in an odd situation, and im looking for advice on how to handle this.

I live in a block of units in the middle of brisbane city. Internode is my ISP.

I'm getting less than ASDL1 speeds on my Naked ASDL 2+ Connection, i have no phones, faxes, or security systems plugged in to the phone sockets AT ALL.

I only picked up on the fact my line was screwd about a week ago, its been like this about 6mths total tho. I thought it was just how the modem distributed bandwidth (Myself and my Partner use the net, if he youtubes, and im on an aussie server playing games, my ping goes up to 600 and i generaly get kicked, so have had a no tubing while gaming rule for a while now) But the real kick in the arse that something was up was a workmate was showing off his 8mbps speedtest on his frigging mobile phone, so i do a speedtest at home and get under 5meg :?

I call internode, they send out a Tech. Lines are fine, under 9m from my unit to the MDF 1 level below me. He does a particular test on the line and it maxes out his meter for interference in 2 seconds flat. Issue found!

6mths back, body corporate payed $30,000 to have a contractor come out and "redo the phone lines" in the units. I dont think this fella was licensed, as aparently body corp also knew that since then the phone lines have been screwd, and their only attempts to fix the issue is to keep trying to call the guy, who, surprise surprise, wont even answer the phone anymore.

So, body corp has known for 6mths our phone lines are screwd. This is effecting everyone in the building. Because of it ive been paying top $$ for my internet speed to be more than halved, and very tempremental at that, tho its no fault of internodes, its entirely body corporate.

I've requested internode send me as much paperwork as possible that can show this issue started happening at the same time they got the phone lines "Fixed".

What im hoping to do is:

Demand body corp pay the callout fee for the tech (problem is on "my end" so i have to pay the bill) because they were negligent (they knew about the issue but did not pass on to owner/occupiers at all)

Demand body corporate pay 50% of my internet bill, for each month, going back from when the problem started. As again, because of this issue, im getting less than HALF the speeds i should be getting, along with it being tempremental as fubar. (The box on level 2 gets 15meg/sec, i get under 5-6 up in my unit)

Demand they pay up to $500 to hire a liscenced technitain from a company of my choosing (company recommended by internode) to come and replace the actual phone line going from the MDF to my unit, because if body corp cant fix it within 6mths i doubt demanding they fix it will make them do anything at all.

Do you think my demands are reasonable given the situation?

How can i make this happen?

I cant even play DayZ when my partner opens a 30sec youtube clip, my ping rockets to 500 and i get booted. this shizz should not be happening!

all help and advice is appreciated. My parents are the owner's of the unit im in and are able to confirm (that + the people hired for reception in the building) also confirm they've known about the issue for quite some time but noone has been given notice of the issue being there.

thanks muchly

i just want my internets to work the way it should :(

I love your idea!
You get what you deserve and it gives more motivation for the body corp to fix a problem that they caused.
In some countries internet is a basic human right, along with electricity!

I expect you're going to run into a few walls with demanding backpayment. Although it sounds harsh, you could have investigated the issue sooner instead of leaving it go for 6 months.
