Biggest lessons I've learnt or learnt from others experiences in hardcore:

Sand wasps (Act II) Hurt!

Don't go afk in the middle of the field and expect your teammate to stand there 20min protecting your character. (A teammate of a friend got killed that way, silly level 52 Barbarian)

HC is actually the 1 thing that is making me *want* to buy D3 (yes, I one of the 4 remaining gamers who hasn't got it yet).

This article just makes me want it more :P

This playstyle borders on masochistic, or the very definition of..

what happens when you sink months/years of your life into this game and die to a lag spike?

killing spree!

If you've sunk years into a character it's unlikely that you will die. It's quite possible to out gear areas and I doubt there will be many people playing hardcore inferno. I am a 60 barb and I don't see myself doing inferno until my gear is significantly better.. and even then..

With the prices on the HC AH atm it's a damn long grind until I get there =P

There's a few people in hardcore inferno. All they are doing is farming treasure goblins in MF gear from the cellar that spawns in old tristram.

Doing anymore in inferno hardcore right now is kindof pointless.

Blizzard have said that they have a ton of balancing of skills and inferno damage to do.

They want to change the game so that more than three builds per class are viable, and then look at how damage works. This will probably mean changing it from 'you get hit... you die.' Because very few skills help combat that.

Better to wait until they've actually playtested and balanced it.

Lag isn't the big enemy that many make it out to be. If you pay attention to your connection you can deal with it easily.

Yeah, I mean Act 1 inferno isn't too bad, it's soloable as a few classes, and can be cleared with no deaths as a group too, it's just about getting the right gear for it.

Act 2 is where you hit a brick wall.

There are other hardcore experiences around.

I also play Path of Exile hardcore, and it's fun. The only issue I have with that game is that in its closed beta state, it's not a finished game. I'm waiting till they go open beta and release the third act before I get back into it.

Path of Exile hardcore community is also a bit better, as it has a better chat system.

Their servers are also not as crowded, so it's a refreshing change to not play on a congested server.

you might have been luckier than I but I have had times where I'll sit at 60 ms ping and it will jump right up to 1000+ with no warning, which is fine for my monk he is nigh immortal at the moment but my wizard gets mauled when this happens pressing the teleport button and nothing happens for a few seconds has been the death of me more than once now.

Anyways I think you hardcore players are all mad-men/women but each to their own :D

I keep the latency meter in my peripheral vision. Usually I'll get some warning before spikes. Game starts getting choppy, and bar goes to yellow.

That said, there's stuff I do to ensure a steady connection. I played around with my settings on my end, use a tunneling service, try not to play in American peak time.
