Diablo III Hotfixes Arrive, Nerf Monks, Demon Hunter, Wizard

A new hotfix has been rolled out for Diablo III overnight, which scales back on a number of quickly-discovered exploits for the Monk, Demon Hunter and Wizard. The Monk can now no longer spam critical hits on Sweeping Wind for spirit regen or use Mantra of Healing for super-health regen, while the Demon Hunter's Smoke Screen time has been slashed in half. Arcane Torrent and Energy Armour for the Wizard have also been tweaked. Check out the full list here.

almost a disadvantage... they patch something that utterly breaks something else.. Can't not install it and wait for a patch that fixes the patch

I didn't say it was an advantage for the consumer... ;)

It's hardly unusual for design choices to be made to benefit the business, as alluded to in "(with all that entails in terms of bandwidth, QA, support, etc)".

About time wizards and DH got a nerf, in comparison to how monks and barbs are having a hard time in later hell / Inferno levels

But making all classes equal in their frustration in inferno sounds good to me, wizards and DH were asking for it, given they were the classes people were farming inferno with most easily

The problem is though that the nerf also affects many other things.

Like Demon Hunters have a rune on Smoke Screen that regenerates hatred for every second spent in Smoke Screen. Now with the change, that rune is absolutely useless.

There are other ways for Demon Hunters to play, but Blizzard basically threw a tantrum and made some unrelated things irrelevant to stop a particular issue they saw as wrong.

2x healing on mantra of healing is worthless imo
Monks healing needs a buff not a nerf imo @ 50k health my heals do not do enough any more is getting obnoxious

I'd guess you'll see a lot of this tweeking/nerfing in the next short while. Seems to happen in the early stages of games like this, the tweeks will become less severe as time goes by, I'd imagine?

For a game that is supposed to be 'highly polished' its come out with a 'balance hotfix' surprisingly fast.

That being said i'm still enjoying playing.... minus the lag
