Hands-On Far Cry 3 Multiplayer Previewed

Unread postby News Portal » 21 May 12, 1:42 pm

Toby McCasker recently went hands-on with [app=8213]Far Cry 3[/app]'s multiplayer modes at a showing in Sydneytown. Is it an interesting addition, or a tacked-on extra?

sounds very similar to FC2 with the addition of zip lines and deep water. The slide mechanic in FC2 was very good, you could jump out of a slide by firing off a round and quickly get into a crouch, if they slow this mechanic down in FC3 that will be a disappointment. Deep blue water was a feature of the original FC and the brown shallow water we got in FC2 was also a tad disappointing so decent water will be welcome in FC3.

And Toby did they mention anything about dedicated server support?
We never managed to get FC2 servers working here at GON due to the poor dedi server setup; they crashed so often that we had to abandon that idea after a couple of weeks eventhough there were a few eager players.

cheers :)

Not sure what they're doing. Did anyone play Far Cry Instincts? You could set traps, claymores, as well as (a minor selection of) vehicles; but the weapons were varied and fun to use anyway. You could also go prone and roll over onto your back to shoot people from beneath a hut. And then on top of that they had the pretty cool feral powers which, in some ways, mimicked the Nanosuit of Crysis but were completely unique.

Not sure why, but that console version of Far Cry has so far been my favourite (it was far better tyhan the PC original imo) because it's gameplay felt a lot more thought out. Not sure how they've managed to stuff up Far Cry 2 after that, though I'm not going to get excited for Far Cry 3.

Oh well!

Far cry 2 multi was one of our favorite lan games. Each player would use the fantastic map editor to put together some semblance of a map and then we would play through all of them in turn.

I always resulted in a hilarious mix of maps (Most of them were rubbish), the shooting mechanics is FC2 were also well tuned though the bloody grenade launcher did stuff up the balance of any map.

All I want to know about FC3 is whether or not there will be a FC2 style map editor!

yes the same as we had for fc2 but apparently bigger and better; the map editor and map sharing were one of the good features of fc2 with many great maps being made by the community.
there's a thread at ubi listing the details:

the original Far Cry was my first EVER PC FPS experience and I absolutely loved it, every single bit of it...

tbh I found FC2 to be extremely disappointing, not a terrible game but it wasn't a proper sequel to Far Cry they just used the name to cash-in.

I thought Far Cry was pretty good until the end, with the aliens or whatever they were.

I enjoyed both Far Cry 1 & 2 multiplayer side of things, Will definitely try this one out after completing the singleplayer campaign.

Good to hear, thanks for that! I'll make sure I keep an eye on this then.

I feel like another rocket launcher buggy destruction derby map is on its way...
