Previews are always a difficult creature, but as Alex Walker found, it’s even more perplexing when you’re dealing with the remake of a beast that’s more than a decade old. Join us for the first part of his [app=8543]Counter-Strike: Global Offensive[/app] Preview.

to be honest that was a bit of a tl;dr but I read the first third or so and I completely agree with everything you had to say there, especially about the "unnaturally high skill ceiling". That's why those games are STILL loved because not only did they have it, but modern games more importantly don't.

I really hope GO can capture that essence.

It's not really looking good at the moment, the devs have no idea what they're doing.
You can't tap, you can't control spray, there's no improvement I can find in regards to aiming besides going for the best spray and pray method.
There's some random cone of fire tracer effect that covers up the view of where your bullets are going so you can't even see that.
If the above isn't fixed, I won't be purchasing.

...talking to some of Australia’s best Counter-Strike players to see what they think.

As one of Australia's worst CS players I think it's **** terrible. Everything about it just feels wrong.

as a complete cs noob, all sounds interesting but nothing to make me rush out and puchase.

Good read though, stuff i would never have known about or really noticed but will keep in mind now :)

i dont mind it, i played a lot of 1.6 (no clans or competitive) and i started playing in the alpha back in 99, i never played much source. still debating what my next go to fps online will be. im decidedly not a big fan of cod (although i like the sp stories). bf3 is ok, bit random... maybe cs go. we'll see. good write up btw

Just got a chance to finally try the beta out for 15 minutes today.

My first thoughts -
'What the **** is wrong with my buy menu?'
'Which COD game did they get this CT default pistol, where's my usp?'
'I'll just buy a dgl, all goo-- WHAT? I don't even have 800 bucks to start with?'
/Gets lost trying to negate all these new buildings in Italy, comes out to finish off 2 terrosists and win the round (still with awful pistol)-
'Yay, now I'll slowly attempt to buy a famas.'
'Is it on burst fire or? Where am I checking this?'
'Oh I hear someone in house, strafe a look at doorway.'
/Dies from insta-kill taser or something?
'Well, this wasn't fun.'

Played a bit of dust and italy. Spent countless hours on 1.6, and I could even handle source. But this, I won't be purchasing.

.............I like it. The only real problem I have is that the guns dont really seem that different to each other like they did in the previous games.

To me the guns just feel all wrong.

The game play is too fast and no matter what i do with my aiming, like DarKnode said - It just feels like a spray and pray. There seems to be no technique to burst fire etc, the bullets just feel totally random.

The guns look oversized and fake and what is with these "tracer bullet" animations?

To me, this doesn't feel like CS being brought into the new age, but rather just a cheap attempt at a CoD cash in.

I don't think it's trying to cash in on CoD since they haven't implemented anything from CoD into the game (movement, ADS, streaks, pace), it's just simply an updated graphics version of CS dumbed down for consoles(?).

What's confusing me is that I really don't know what they're trying to achieve, inevitably it's going to be a hat party to pay for the game since it's apparently going to be free-2-play but with the spray and pray nature of the game, hackers are going to have a field day (like TF2) and even the 'skilled' players of CS won't be able to do anything but attempt to AWP them (since it's the only thing I could find that wasn't utterly broken and random).

After being disappointed by DICE ruining what was a bearable game, Black Ops 2 and nothing much else in terms of good multiplayer FPS, I was hoping that Valve wouldn't ruin CS :(
